If JJ Watt returns to the NFL, Pat McAfee and his team have a prospect nicely lined up for the retired Houston Texans DE. Following the Detroit Lions‘ 41-38 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, JJ Watt stated that he was impressed with the team for coming strong from out of nowhere. This gave a chance for Pat McAfee’s crew to pester him about returning to the field.

Time and again, JJ Watt has voiced his content over his retirement from the field to spend more time with his family. But since his attendance at the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tennessee Titans in Week 9, the 34-year-old is realizing that he’s missing out on a lot of action and excitement. Watching his younger brother and Steelers linebacker TJ Watt in action for the first time this season gave him a renewed sense of desire to play once more. But will he really unretire, and if so, which team will win that lottery?

JJ Watt gave his fans a spark of curiosity as Pat McAfee and the others urged him to join the Detroit Lions. In a recent episode on The Pat McAfee Show, the crew said that JJ Watt would be a hero if he won a Super Bowl for the team. The former NFL punter went on to say that it is destiny that Lions edge rushers Aidan Hutchinson and JJ Watt sport the same black eye signature style.

During his career with the Houston Texans, JJ Watt admitted to using Oil of Olay Eye Blacks to smear beneath his eyes. This technique is believed to reduce a player’s glare during the game. Aidan Hutchinson follows the same style with his signature eye-black on one eye. But the compatibility between the two players goes deeper than just their aesthetic preferences.

Lions star player Aidan Hutchinson is leading his team to a 7-2 season with his impressive performance. But behind the scenes, it was JJ Watt who had been mentoring the 23-year-old. As a player who finished with 9.5 sacks and three interceptions in his first season, he admitted that he talked with JJ Watt to ask “what he did to make his jump from Year 1 to Year 2. Because that Year 2, he had 21 sacks.” But as to whether JJ Watt will return, it’s still not settled.

Just like many successful retired NFL players, JJ Watt has settled with his retirement, saying he’s at peace. He admits that when the actions in the NFL are hot, and promotions are rolling in, he feels tempted to unretire.

However, he also states that whenever he gets the itch to play again, he reminds himself that he enjoys “waking up feeling great” without hits and bruises to recover from. Following his retirement, JJ Watt was inducted into the Texans’ Ring of Honor. He now serves as a CBS analyst and makes weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show.

There’s no saying if JJ Watt will ever play with the Detroit Lions, nor return to the NFL for that case. But if he does pair up with Aiden Hutchinson, it would definitely be a sight to see the two outstanding players rocking black eyes on the football field.
