“White eightyyyy… White eighty Hut.” The NFL heard this legendary cadence last time when the Panthers’ former star QB Cam Newton played his last game in 2021. He started his career with the Panthers and ended with the Panthers after playing one year with the Patriots. But as the star QB spent nine years with the organization, what do you think he has said recently about the locker room at that time? Some good? Or bad? Well, before we learn what Newton said about his former teammates, the former Panthers star has blurted out some unknown behavior of Newton in the locker room.
Former Panthers star Luke Kuechly was on a podcast named Buzzin’ with the Boys. When the hosts also told Luke about Cam Newton and his relationship with Cam, the star didn’t hold back. Talking overwhelmingly about his former QB, Luke Kuechly recalled Cam’s locker room behavior. “His toughness, we never questioned it. The guy never complained. He was the first one every day. He worked so hard and never yelled at guys, never threw them under the bus. Talk about a dude who all he wants to do is play football.” This is what Newton’s former linebacker said.

Ever since his college days with the Gators and the Tigers, Newton showed up every day when the team needed him. His work actually awarded him the Heisman trophy in 2010 before coming into the big leagues the next year. His work ethic led him to win the NFL MVP, as well as Offensive Player of the Year in the 2015 season, and Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2011. But in this journey of accolades and awards, he has always been a part of the same organization throughout his career, except for the 2020 season.
But do you know what Cam said recently about the franchise that he was a part of for an entire decade? The team he helped define and elevate during some of its most pivotal years? Let’s take a closer look at what he had to say, as it may surprise you and offer some insight into his thoughts on his time with the Panthers. Let’s check it out quickly and dive deeper into his perspective.
Cam Newton’s controversial take on the Panthers team pre-2011
Cam Newton was on a podcast recently, where he had a conversation with one of this year’s top picks, Travis Hunter. What Newton was trying to convince young Hunter of was that he had no scope in the game to do greater things than what a quarterback does. However, while saying that, Newton said something controversial and debatable.
“You could potentially be the first pick, but, bro, you have no way of impacting the game the way a quarterback does,” Newton said. But he continued with this: “My issue is that when I was the first pick, I went into a locker room of losers. Just honest. Guys didn’t know how to win; guys didn’t know how to prepare.” Then, he also tried to substantiate his bold take.

So, looking back at the Panthers era before 2011, we see something quite different from what the former QB said recently. Before Cameron landed in Carolina, the Panthers were actually doing well. Though it’s a fact that the 2010 season was disastrous with 2 wins and 14 losses, what about the years before that?
In 2009, the franchise ended their regular season with an 8-8 record. But before that, they had a great season with a final tally of 12 wins and 4 losses, although they lost in the divisional round against the Cardinals. Even before that, they won the divisional round in 2005 with an 11-5 record. And most importantly, in the 2003 season, they reached Super Bowl XXXVIII against the Patriots.

So, what can we conclude here? Was Cam right, or are these facts more accurate? Actually, Cam Newton wanted to talk about his era, where he poured out everything for the team. But while patting himself on the back, the former QB lost somewhere in the jungle of ego.
