Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson. Michael Vick. And now, Jimmy Johnson. Who is the next? Terry Bradshaw? It is safe to say that Fox NFL has become a graveyard for their broadcast team lately. Recently, after the Eagles finally avenged their 2022 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs, Johnson announced his retirement from the studio after 31 long years. Reacting to the news, the Cowboys owner and Johnson’s ex-colleague Jerry Jones called the 81-year-old will always be a winner. “As one of the most gifted people I’ve ever been around, Jimmy has blazed a remarkable, unique trail that is now deeply embedded into football and broadcasting history,” Jones said. Given their rocky past, Jones’ heartfelt words took many by surprise. But it was Erin Andrews’ tribute to the 2x Super Bowl-winning coach, that caught everyone’s attention.
Well, Andrews’ contract with the Fox Network has already become public knowledge now. The veteran sideline reporter will be leaving Fox NFL after 12 years and she has certainly seen the best and worst of the legendary NFL coach in the last decade. Johnson may have won two Super Bowls in Dallas—a rare feat knowing they have not won one in the last 30 years. But it was Fox where the veteran sportscaster felt home. “I have an absolute ball with my friends on the set. The best friends I’ve ever had, there with Fox… But I’ve made an extremely difficult decision… I’ve decided to retire from Fox.” Johnson said and just like that Hall of Famer Johnson bid adieu to his broadcasting career.
Quite a ride, no!

Without Jimmy on the screen, the pre-game shows and Sunday Night Football will never be the same. And who better than Erin—who worked closely with Jimmy for the entirety of her Fox career—to tell about this? So, after the 81-year-old prepares to leave Fox, Andrews shared her favorite memory with coach Johnson.
In an Instagram post, Andrews shared a sweet note for Jimmy, “My favorite part about working with @jimmyjohnson4616 will always be my check-ins with @nflonfox during breaks. Coach is always the first one to say how much he liked my outfit, ask me about the crowd, or about the weather at the stadium.” She’s definitely going to miss him on the sets.
The 46-year-old also recalled Jimmy’s ‘speeches‘ at dinners and shared how “his humor, laugh, and smile” made him a joy to be around. The first picture Erin shared also featured Jimmy’s longtime friend, Jerry Jones, who is the center of the Cowboys universe. having coached the Cowboys for just five seasons, Jimmy led them to two Super Bowl wins in 1992 and 1993 before leaving Dallas in 1994.
Touched by Erin’s tribute, Jimmy also revealed how much he will be missing the entire crew—especially Erin’s smile and wit. “Erin always has a smile & her wit is second to none! Going to miss the entire group!” he commented on Andrews’ post.

Erin has shared the reporting desk with Jimmy on several occasions over the past thirteen years. Her future with the channel is also talk of the town. The 46-year-old’s contract with Fox ended after the Super Bowl. The same is the case for her longtime friend and colleague, Charissa Thompson. Fox has not renewed their contracts as of now, so it’s uncertain whether the network will bring the duo back or not.
Speaking of Charissa, she too had a message for Fox’s favorite coach on his retirement.
The end of the Jimmy Johnson and Fox saga
Jimmy first stepped into the Fox studio in 1994 for a brief stint. After two years, he returned to the NFL as the head coach of the Dolphins. Jimmy and Fox reunited again in 2002, this time for a long 23-year run. “The most fun I’ve ever had in my career, that’s counting Super Bowls and national championships -was at Fox Sports,” Jimmy shared on ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd.‘
