Former NFL star QB Drew Brees never backs down from challenge! A significant figure not just in the field of football, his expertise expands to multiple domains. Not only has he led the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl, but his expertise has expanded to various fields, like flag football, the ticketing industry, or pickleball. And, this time he has a new suggestion for an Olympics addition, reviving an old sport that was banned in the 1990s.
Brees took to the Montana slopes with his family recently, posting a carousel of images and clips on Instagram. He is currently enjoying the “bluebird days and beautiful conditions,” on the snow during the family vacation. Posting a small clip of his daughter, Rylen, performing a backflip on the slopes, he wrote, “Skiing gymnastics… A new Olympic event! Rylen invention!” It seems like he (rather Rylen) is reviving the banned sport of Ski ballet, which had brief Olympics demonstration appearances in 1988 and 1992.

Ski ballet, also known as acroski, was a freestyle skiing discipline that involved performing choreographed routines on skis. Even though the sport had a great artistic appeal, some called it as being very theatrical. And, it was eventually removed from the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) World Cup events in the early 2000s. As other skiing sports such as Big air and Slopestyle found greater acceptance, Ski ballet’s legitimacy declined. And now it is just relegated to nostalgia.
Nonetheless, with Drew Brees’ recent post, it hints at a subtle revival, at least on a personal scale. But what matters is that his daughter, Rylen, truly harbors a sporting talent, taking after her father.
Not just skiing, Brees has also advocated the development of flag football, to promote its inclusion in the 2028 Olympics. Laying the foundation of his Football ‘N’ America (FNA) league in 2017, he has mentored young athletes across the U.S. As flag football is making its way to an Olympics debut, Brees wants to expand its global participation. This comes amidst speculation over his future, regarding decisions on his coaching career.
Drew Brees clears stance on coaching career
Brees has recently made it clear that he does not intend to become a college or NFL coach anytime in the near future. He remarked, “As far as specifically going into coaching, I probably wouldn’t be a college coach or an NFL coach, at this stage.” But coaching is an important part of his professional trajectory, even if he will not participate in it officially.

Brees has served as an assistant coach for Purdue’s bowl game. However, it was just temporary. But, he emphasized, “I love coaching. I love coaching my kids. Indirectly, I am always coaching.” While fans still hope to see him coach the Saints some day, they will have to wait. Meanwhile, he has also taken to new ventures, like serving in the ticketing industry as an investor in Sports Illustrated Tickets, tagging it as “the fastest-growing online ticketing marketplace.” He is invested in Major League Pickleball (MLP), hoping to expand it as well.
Indeed, it seems that he has his hands full. Let’s see if he can sling ’em like he did on the field.
