The secret is in the open now. Aaron Rodgers will not play for the NY Jets in the 2025 season. He flew out for a meeting with the front office. And they revealed their future plans upfront. But with this, the rumors also spread out that Steelers are making a place for the Super Bowl winner. Wait, hold on! The HC Mike Tomlin might stall his incoming.
Shannon Sharpe and Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson discussed the potential trade talks on the February 10 episode of the Nightcap. While claiming that the Steelers would not tolerate the QB’s shenanigans, he also discussed things from his 2-year stint at the Jets.
Johnson said, “Steelers, you can take that out the equation. Because what’s not going to happen is you’re not going to come in with the attitude that you have at that organization with Mike Tomlin. That ain’t happening. And saying you’re not coming to mini camp, not coming to training, whatever it might be, taking Retreats. And doing all that saying, some of the stuff you say through the media, is not happening.”

That is a major dent to A-Rod’s reputation. In his first year with the Jets, Aaron Rodgers missed the season because of an Achilles injury. The second season started with a confrontation with Robert Saleh over not attending the minicamp. It soon escalated with reports claiming they were on different terms. Later, the HC was fired mid-season.
As it became clear that the Jets weren’t going into the playoffs, the quarterback started a tiff with the owner, Woody Johnson. His claims that fans didn’t have a good image of the owner weren’t impactful to a positive end. But he did claim that the Raiders and Saints need an experienced QB so he can go there.
However, a few members of the locker room still trust the Super Bowl winner. They want him to stay.
Aaron Rodgers gets high praise from Jets teammate
CJ Mosley, a league veteran of 11 seasons, saw the quarterback from close quarters. And he is impressed. While praising his teammate, the LB said, “He was a leader no matter what when he came into the locker room, when he was with us this year. I know the wins and losses can get in the way of a lot of things that you can accomplish, but there’s no reason for him to leave New York with his head down ’cause I know he gave us his all.”

Coming from a defensive captain, it’s huge praise for Aaron Rodgers. They didn’t get much playing time together. While A-Rod missed the 2023 season, Mosley missed most of the 2024 season because of toe and neck injuries. Overall, the QB recorded a 5-12 win-loss record in 17 starts with 3,897 passing yards, 28 TDs, and 11 interceptions. But there’s another constraint in the potential tradeoff. His 3-year $125 million till 2025 carries a $23.5 million cap hit this year. But the overall amount maxes out to $63 million in 4 years till 2029.
