Chad Johnson’s got his eyes on a new kind of end zone—and this time, he’s throwing punches instead of touchdown passes.
The former Patriots’ WR dropped a tweet: “After I beat James Harrison a** I think I want to fight Andre Ward only using my jab.” Ahan, Johnson’s already looking past his upcoming matchup with fellow NFL legend and two-time Super Bowl champ James Harrison—and he’s gunning for a bout with Olympic gold medalist and retired boxing champ Andre Ward. Talk about confidence!

Let’s rewind a bit, shall we? Johnson and Harrison were both set to square off in an exhibition MMA showdown in New Orleans. This will be held next year just before Super Bowl LIX. The matchup was announced with much fanfare on social media, where the 46-year-old hyped up the fight by saying, “I’m so excited.” But this bout’s length is already causing a stir. Johnson initially said it’d be a three-round clash. But Harrison’s response? Pure smack talk: “You not gon be able to stand once I get done with you.” Looks like the only thing these two can agree on is that they’re ready to throw down.
The duo’s trash-talk game’s already in mid-season form. The former Pats’ wideout declared, “I’m gone beat yo a** in round 1 so don’t worry about the other 4. I’m standing on business.” With words this heavy, it’s clear the showdown in New Orleans is going to be more than just a friendly exhibition.
This ain’t Ochocinco’s first rodeo in the ring, though. In 2021, he battled MMA fighter Brian Maxwell in a four-round bout on the undercard of Mayweather vs. Paul. True to form, Chad Johnson also beat everyone to the punch, predicting the Davante Adams trade before it happened. This man’s always one step ahead, whether on-field, in the ring, or on X.

During a preview of Wednesday’s Inside The NFL episode, co-host Ryan Clark shared a group text that Chad Johnson sent the night before the news went public. In the message, he boldly announced, “Davante Adams to the Jets. I beat Schefter, and I’m sure they’ll announce it tomorrow. He’s flying to NY tonight.” Talk about a flex! The six-time Pro Bowl WR not only scooped the news, but also called the timing of the official announcement like a pro.

Johnson, who co-hosts the Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe and is a regular on Inside The NFL (airing on The CW), made it clear that he’s got some solid connections in the league. “Listen, I know everything. The writing was on the wall. I have sources,” he said when asked how he got the scoop. He teased even more insider info, hinting at more trades and moves coming down the pipeline in the next 48 hours. Looks like Ocho’s got the NFL on lock!
While Johnson might not be throwing his hat in the ring as a full-time NFL insider just yet, his track record speaks for itself. The next time he drops a hint, it might be worth paying close attention to—he clearly knows his stuff!
