Xavier Worthy just ran a 40-yard dash that even the clock struggled to keep up with. This extraordinary feat brought Worthy in immediate comparison with many football greats, including Tom Brady. However, this new star’s comparison to the ageless wisdom of the 46-year-old legendary quarterback is no surprise.
In a tale that spans generations, Worthy being a rising star in college football has clocked in a jaw-dropping spectacle by taking charge of the dash in 4.21 seconds. Meanwhile, the ageless NFL icon, Brady decided to give ‘one more shot’ to break down his disappointing records back in 2000 which earned him much controversy. Mesmerized by the two incidents, CBS Sports recently stoked the flames of this comparison. Taking to Instagram, the sports platform shared a split-screen montage of Worthy and Brady in action. The caption went, “That Tom Brady kid wound up doing just fine for himself.”

However, there are obvious reasons behind the post that captured the unexpected convergence of records and generations. Worthy being a newcomer in the 40-yard dash had broken the previous record held by John Ross III in 2017. It was on his second attempt that the 20-year-old Longhorns player beat Ross by 0.1 seconds. Hence, he has a lot in common with the legendary Brady.

Brady’s initial 40-yard dash time record in the NFL Combine back in 2000 was a modest 5.28 seconds. Hence, in this way, he got pushed far from the eye-catching performances that draft prospects typically put forward. Additionally, he became the target of Tony Romo’s controversial comment on his speed, “He’s slow, right? He can’t actually make anyone miss.”

Now retired, Brady still has the pace to turn heads. On February 29, the NFL GOAT stunned the fans by revealing his intent in a Twitter post that said, “Maybe, just maybe, we give the 40 one more shot”. This time, Brady worked on his speed and broke the record he made when he was 22. The new time stamp surpassed his 2000 time with two stopwatches recording his feat time to be 5.18 and 5.12 seconds.

Quite similarly, 20-year-old Worthy opened up with a time of 4.25 seconds that tied him with the record already set by John Ross back in 2017. However, as Brady showcased resilience to perform better, he did not surrender and tried his luck for the second time. It was then his run initially measured at 4.22 seconds and later updated a hundredth of a second faster that ushered in a comparison between Worthy and Brady.
