March 16 isn’t just another day on the calendar—it’s practically a national holiday for WWE fans. Stone Cold Steve Austin didn’t just change wrestling; he redefined what it meant to be a badass in the ring. And if there’s one rule in the Texas Rattlesnake playbook, it’s this: Never trust him. Just ask Pat McAfee, who took to social media on 3:16 Day, to pay tribute to Austin.
On Sunday, McAfee shared a clip of Austin with himself on his official ‘X’ handle and sent a message in his own unique way. “Happy 3:16 Day to all who celebrate..Give this post a “HELL YEAH” if you think @steveaustinBSR is a walking, talking, beer chugging GOAT,” he wrote. Now, here’s the cheeky reminder from McAfee. “And remember…🗣🗣 NEVER TRUST THE TEXAS RATTLESNAKE.”

And if you’re thinking that McAfee is the only one from the NFL world to wish Austin—think again. Because the Philadelphia Eagles‘ offensive tackle, Lane Johnson, is here as well. “Happy 3:16 Day! 🍻 @steveaustinBSR,” Johnson wrote in his ‘X’ post. Plus, the 49ers‘ tight end, George Kittle shared a story with Austin on his IG handle, and wrote, “Happy holidays 3:16.” But why’s the hype around this day? Well, just ask, why not?
Let’s take a trip down memory lane at King of the Ring 1996 when Austin dropped that, “Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass,” catchphrase after beating Jake “The Snake” Roberts. The crowd went nuts, and since then, they immediately latched onto “Austin 3:16,” chanting it at events. Because let’s be real—Austin didn’t just drop a catchphrase that night.
The guy started a full-blown movement. One line, one promo, and suddenly, “Austin 3:16” was everywhere. T-shirts, signs, chants—you name it. And the best part? WWE didn’t even see it coming. Fans took it, ran with it, and turned it into the hottest thing in wrestling. And why not? I mean, there’s surely something wildly satisfying about a guy turning a Bible verse into a roast moment for his opponent.
Picture this: Jake came preaching, and Austin walked out preaching in his own gospel. The catch? Well, instead of salvation, Austin left with just one simple message that went on to become a cult classic catchphrase. Fast forward to now and March 16 is basically a national holiday for the WWE fans.
Over the years, the guy used 3:16 to drop the coldest moments. Remember March 16, 2020? Yeah, the one when he celebrated 3:16 on RAW in front of an empty arena (thanks to the pandemic), hilariously drinking beer while Byron Saxton rated his promo. And how can we avoid Pat McAfee’s reminder, “Never trust the Texas Rattlesnake?”
What’s your perspective on:
Does Stone Cold Steve Austin still hold the title of the ultimate wrestling badass in your book?
Have an interesting take?
Because let’s be obvious—he didn’t trust anyone and no one trusted him either. And why would they? Steve Austin literally stunned just about everyone—friends or enemies, doesn’t matter. Whether it was betraying Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson multiple times while aligning with Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 17 or stunning McMahon on numerous occasions as well. Safe to say why McAfee was so serious about this day.

After all, Pat McAfee also shared the stage with Stone Cold
Pat McAfee is the ultimate all-rounder if we’re being honest. From grinding on the gridiron to taking stunners in WWE, McAfee tasted almost everything. Now that the stage is already set for March 16, let’s talk about WrestleMania 38. McAfee probably thought he was living a dream while standing across Stone Cold. I mean, sharing a beer with the Texas Rattlesnake? That’s bucket-list material. BUT!
If there’s one thing that the WWE history told us, it’s that nobody—and I mean nobody—should ever trust Austin with a cold one. It’s like trusting Loki with a promise, or thinking Littlefinger isn’t scheming behind your back. One sip, one cheer, and BAM! Stunner out of nowhere. McAfee got sent flying while beer spewing midair. The best part? Well, even after that stunner, McAfee was still chugging.
But let’s rewind a bit, because McAfee was already having a memorable night. The reason? He already beat Austin Theory and let’s just say that was impressive. However, he somehow ended up in a match with Vince McMahon himself. Yeah, you guessed that right. The-then 76-year-old McMahon, who turned the whole thing into a bizarre moment.

It was like watching your grandpa try to flex on you at a family BBQ—except this grandpa had his own personal henchman (Theory) to do the dirty work. And just when everyone thought that entering the ring was the worst decision of McAfee, the Stone Cold entered the party like it was 1998 again. He handed out stunners first to Theory, and then to McMahon (who took arguably the worst stunner in WWE history).
And then, after sharing a beer with McAfee, he didn’t even leave McAfee. And that folks, was the clip that McAfee shared on his official ‘X’ handle while wishing 3:16 day to Steve Austin. That said, Happy 3:16 Day to everyone who celebrate.
