Sixteen years without a Super Bowl? For the Steelers, that’s like waiting for George R.R. Martin to finish The Winds of Winter—painfully long. Their last ring came in 2009, and even the “Killer B’s” era with Big Ben couldn’t break the drought. Their last playoff win? A field-goal-fueled grind against the Chiefs in 2016. Since then, it’s been heartbreak, near-misses, and a whole lot of what could have been for Mike Tomlin and Co., leaving the Steel City desperate for a comeback.
Fast forward, and the Steelers are still stuck in limbo for a franchise QB. Kenny Pickett was supposed to flip the script, but given the Steelers were in pursuit of a veteran QB, the guy just started to look for opportunities elsewhere. And after last season’s quarterback drama between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, all eyes are on Aaron Rodgers. Can he end the Steelers’ Super Bowl drought if the team signs him?
That’s where the Packers legend LeRoy Butler comes in. Butler, who spent his entire NFL career with the Packers, believes that the four-time MVP QB makes the Steelers a Super Bowl Contender. “If he comes in, I think you have a legitimate chance to get to the Super Bowl,” he remarked. “If Aaron Rodgers goes to Pittsburgh, you can expect them to be in the Super Bowl. They’ll be my Super Bowl pick if he goes there.”

See, that may sound like a Packers fan over-hyping his team’s ex-QB, and a good lot of people may not agree with Butler’s statement. The reason? It’s Rodgers’ brief stint with the Jets. After signing a 3-year deal with the New York team, Rodgers was supposed to be their savior. But nope, the man became the latest victim of their QB curse. Sure, his 5-12 track record is not worth the hype for a Super Bowl contention, but circumstances change, folks.
When Russell Wilson led the Steelers 6-1 in his first 7 games, the Steelers Nation was like, “All hail, Wilson.” Jump to a few more weeks, and suddenly he was the villain in Pittsburgh. Courtesy? Those 5 consecutive losses. As for Rodgers, sure, his media feuds and locker room dynamics have raised criticism, but let’s be real—at this point, the Steelers have got A-Rod as their best chance—if they’re looking to lift their seventh Lombardi.
But the big question: what makes Butler think that the Steelers are a top contender for a Super Bowl under Rodgers? “Aaron gotta give up the control, and I think Pittsburgh (is) the only team that can do that,” he said. “He has to give up the control and really become not the bird that comes in with the worm feeding one of the babies. He has to be one of the babies with his mouth open. Want to receiver coaching and receive the whole concept, and the only place that can do that is Pittsburgh because Tomlin ain’t going for what the Jets went for.” Translation?
Think about it this way—when Rodgers joined the Jets, he wasn’t just the QB1. Oh no, he was practically the CEO of the offense. The team didn’t just sign him; they rolled out the red carpet and let him call the shots. He brought in his guy, Nathaniel Hackett, as the OC. And to top it off, the Jets even reunited him with his old target, Davante Adams. And that’s the major concern for Butler.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Aaron Rodgers really be the savior the Steelers need to end their Super Bowl drought?
Have an interesting take?
See, the former Packers Safety believes that Pittsburgh is the only place that’s not going to treat Rodgers like the Jets did. In fact, Mike Tomlin and his crew would want to welcome him into an already established culture.
However, that’s another thing that the 41-year-old QB is yet to sign a contract with the Steelers. But one thing’s for sure: Mike Tomlin and the team are getting closer to bringing in Rodgers after moving on from Russell Wilson.

Russell Wilson is fortunate to do great things after leaving Mike tomlin behind
The New York Giants got tired of playing the waiting game with Aaron Rodgers. First, the QB was waiting for the Vikings to get a deal, putting Pittsburgh and New York on hold. And even after Minnesota ditched him, Rodgers didn’t give a response to either of the parties. That was enough for the Giants as they first signed Jameis Winston on a two-year $8M deal and then locked Wilson on a one-year $21M deal. That means only one thing.
The 36-year-old QB is now out of the waiting game. And now, during a recent introductory conference, Wilson first appreciated Rodgers as a player and then admitted that he’s lucky enough to pull out some great things on the field too. “Aaron Rodgers is a tremendous football player. He’s done some amazing things in this league,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been able to do some great things, too.”
The kicker? Well, it’s still not confirmed if he’s going to be the Giants’ starting QB. The Big Blue holds the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. That means Wilson will compete with Winston and probably a rookie QB to snag the QB 1 role. However, the 36-year-old veteran believes that he’s expected to start in the 2025 season.

“Obviously, I’m expecting to come in there and be a starter, and earning that every day because that’s your mentality and approach,” Wilson said.”I just believe that when you play this position, my goal every day is to step on the field and help our football team win and ultimately to be the best in the world and be one of the best that can do it.” If reports are to be believed, the Giants are projected to sign Shedeur Sanders—if the Browns don’t snag him first.
But the odds are favoring that the Giants are looking to draft a QB and that means Russell Wilson will compete with Winston and a rookie QB. Do let us know your views.
