Back at the NFL Combine in March, when Pat McAfee ran into some issues with the NFL, many thought that the sixth iteration of his annual The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular extra would not make it back on the live TV. However, how could Pat just miss out on an “electric factory” of an event like the Draft?
Hence, by the end of March, he was open to a peace treaty, “The more and more I think about it, you know, maybe we do go shake [the NFL’s] hands. It’s going to be an electric factory over there.” A couple of days ago, when ESPN released its TV schedule for the D-day, we knew we were getting the additional content which was sure to be fun and insightful. And that it was.
With the former Dallas Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy joining the show to share his opinions on the picks and the Draft Day drama in full swing, the Lambeau Field on Thursday night was definitely tuned in. But just then, McAfee did something.

WFRV reporter covering the Green Bay Packers, Kyle Malzhan, shared a video on his X account with the caption, “Buddy sent me this video. Lol. 😂 Pat McAfee just wildn’ here in Green Bay for the #NFLDraft. Former #Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy wanted no part of it.”
Seemingly, someone from the crowd put something on the set stage near Pat McAfee during the show. Seeing it, the NFL legend picked it up, cleaned it, and took a puff before exhaling the smoke towards the set. Just then, Mike also joined on the set but when McAfee offered it to him, he smiled and denied, waving his hands. The analyst tossed the pen right into the crowd to continue with the show as the countdown began. And now we know what the thing was, well, at least, what Pat is revealing to us.
Update: McAfee responded to Malzhan’s tweet, writing, “To my understanding.. This was CBD/Vitamins from a wonderful dude at the draft last night.. obviously Right before we went live.. a little altitude/attitude lift.. thought Coach might’ve gave it a go 😂😂 SHAHTAHT GREEN BAY”

Apart from this, the head coach praised the franchise for giving him full support. He also spoke at length about his stint at America’s Team.
Mike McCarthy predicts playoff finish for the Cowboys
With the show going on, the former NFL player announced the 12th overall pick and then asked McCarthy, “Roger Goodell just announced that the Dallas Cowboys picked Booker from Bama, guard, okay. Shout out to Tyler Booker getting drafted to Dallas Cowboys. We have the man who coached the Dallas Cowboys literally last year, the previous five years I believe, Coach McCarthy, they go with an offensive lineman here for the Dallas Cowboys… Why do you think this pick was made and what do you think about this pick?”

Mike responded, “Love the pick Mel, love the pick. No seriously, if you would’ve asked me who we’d be picking, this is the way to go…I think you’re getting back to hopefully the good old days in Dallas with an excellent offer.” But that’s not where Pat just left it.
He also asked the former head coach about his feelings towards his former team and if her had “Any ill feelings.” But McCarthy promptly denied, “Not at all. I loved my time in Dallas. I’m actually, for the first time, I’m getting to enjoy the city in some of the last couple of months. So, great city, phenomenal organization, cannot say enough about Jerry and Jean and Jones family. Super cool. Just talk about the family organization. You talk about a close family, you guys are asking me ‘Hey, what’s Jerry like?’ and we talked about the land man, that’s who he really is. I’m a better man today than I was when I went to Dallas…
“Professionally, you go and sit with Jerry to talk about life and business, it’s an education. I’m very very thankful to him and his family for making me the guy I am.”

Moreover, while talking about his love for the franchise and the future, he predicted the playoff finish for them in the coming season and said, “That’s going to be a good football team this year. I do, I think there’ll be 10-plus wins, playoff caliber football. I think Brian (Schottenheimer) will do an excellent job. He’s prepared for this, he’s been there three years, he knows the dos and don’ts, and he’ll do it his way.” The message is obvious.
The Cowboys are once again aiming for the playoffs—but that’s nothing new. Fans want the trophy now and hopefully the team will go further than just securing a postseason spot this time. It’ll be interesting to see how the next two days of the draft unfold.
