With Super Bowl duty done and dusted, Michael Strahan is back to his home. Or must we say, his couch on Good Morning America! After the Eagles clipped the Chiefs’ wings with a 40-22 victory, albeit through some controversy on the gridiron and in Strahan’s life, the latter has been making full use of his newfound freedom. And this time, his paths have led him to find himself some love ahead of Valentine’s Day…
But before you get all nervous about any budding conflict in his actual love life with Kayla Quick, things are fine in that alley. Instead, the NFL player-turned-broadcaster took it up a notch to actually dismiss a love connection before it could even begin.
The hilarious incident unfolded on the GMA show earlier this week when six-time Grammy Award, an Academy Award winner, and the joint frontman for The Roots joined the retired NFL veteran to promote his upcoming Hulu documentary Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius). Directed by the musical genius, the documentary film release at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25 this year, and revolves around the “life and legacy of Sly & The Family Stone, the groundbreaking band led by the charismatic and enigmatic Sly Stone. The film captures the band’s rise, reign and subsequent fadeout while shedding light on the unseen burden that comes with success for Black artists in America.”

“The film features notable guests such as Andre 3000, D’Angelo, Chaka Khan, Q-Tip, Nile Rogers, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, George Clinton, Ruth Copeland and Clive Davis. Additional guests include those closest to Sly, including his band members Jerry Martini, Greg Errico, Larry Graham and Cynthia Robinson and family Sylvette Phunne Robinson, Novena Carmel and Sylvester Stewart Jr., who offer the best insights into Sly’s life by sharing anecdotes from their time together,” a description on Hulu’s official website further noted.
Having said that, it’s no news that Questlove has been a longtime Philadelphia Eagles fan. In fact, his rivalry with Strahan has been long time in the making. Just to give you an idea: Back in 2018 (Yes! That’s how far back the tensions go), the drummer even used a hilarious way to threaten Strahan during the Super Bowl LII where the Eagles were clashing with New England Patriots.
Appearing on the Jimmy Fallon Show, the Fox NFL Sunday host divulged,“Before the show I go to rehearse, and I sit in my seat and these fools left me a note… It wasn’t nice! It was a picture of like a bird or man stepping on another person, and it said ‘Go Eagles,’ and it pointed to the person being stepped on and it said ‘Michael.’” As per Strahan, the creative comic in the case was definitely Questlove. However, the Grammy winner had just mumbled and shrugged his shoulders when Fallon had questioned him in a later interview. And seven years later, there’s no love lost…
However, this time, it was Strahan who had the upper hand. At one point in the conversation, the former New York Giants player remarked, “Another amazing thing…tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day. No I’m not going to ask you to be my Valentine. You’re an Eagles fan. That wouldn’t work!” Though his guest fake lamented the heartbreaking rejection, the segment sure was hilarious, and a bit eyebrow raising. Why?
Well, wasn’t it just a few days ago when Strahan was singing praises of the Eagles, that even landed him in hot water with the Giants fans? For the unversed: On February 9, in a pregame show with Saquon Barkley, Strahan was seen waving the Philadelphia Eagles flag, while saying “Fly, Eagles Fly”. What’s more?
The 53-year-old doubled down with his support, talking about Barkley—who played with the Giants from 2018 to 2023—saying, “For all you Giants fans out there, I’ve been around a lot of guys who left the Giants and gone to other places that I did not like, and I never liked them. But he’s such a special man. C’mon, we’re going to ‘Fly, Eagles, Fly’ with Saquon Barkley because I respect the brother, man, so much. And we don’t have a flag in New York. Anyone who needs real estate in New York, I have to sell my house.”

Having said that, it seems like Questlove is not the only one getting on Strahan’s nerves!
Epic rivalries of Michael Strahan’s NY Giants
The NFC East division is an explosive one. The Giants have given tough competition to the Eagles and Commanders over the years. Even Wellington Mara, owner of the franchise since 1959 till his death in 2005, considered Commanders their truest rivals. It’s the oldest one, starting in 1932, which the NY team lost. But, they lead the overall series by 108 wins & 73 losses, with 1-1 playoff record.
However, Michael Strahan’s team has faced tough competition from the Eagles also, since their first meeting in 1933, which also the NY team lost. Just by a difference of one year, it makes it the 2nd oldest rivalry for the franchise. The Eagles have cruised ahead of the Big Blue in recent times. After the 2024 season, the win-loss record stands 96-89 in favor of the Birds, who also lead 3-2 in postseason comparison.

This year has been truly exemplary for them. Saquon Barkley, the 2nd overall Giants pick in 2018 NFL Draft, played 6 seasons for them. But the team couldn’t rally behind him. And he switched to the Eagles ahead of 2024 season. Here they are now, with a Super Bowl. His dream came true. But it was a nightmare for the Giants. Their star played helped their rival become champions.
These rivalries make the game much more fun and worth-watching. It’s history happening in front of our eyes.
