Home/NFL

As the NFL season cranks up, the buzz is unreal. Fans are on the edge of their seats for the Chiefs vs. Bills and Commanders vs. Eagles. These matchups are set to be not epic, but legendary! But hold up, former NFL legend Michael Irvin just hit us with a take that’s straight-up shaking the football world. It’s wild, it’s bold, and it’s already blowing up across the internet.

Michael Irvin is stirring the pot with a bold claim that’s got NFL fans talking. During a recent appearance on SPEAK, Irvin declared that Patrick Mahomes had already surpassed Joe Montana. Irvin explained, “Joe maintains a level of players around him… but for me [Patrick Mahomes], he’s already… surpassed Joe Montana.” He also added, “Can you imagine if you leave Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill for his whole career with Travis Kelce?” Irvin highlighted how Mahomes has thrived even without the same level of elite talent around him as Montana had. He pointed out that while Montana had stars like Jerry Rice, Mahomes has still been able to elevate his game, making stars out of players like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. It’s a take that’s definitely raised some eyebrows across the NFL world.

If we’re talking Mahomes, this dude’s been straight-up dominating since he stepped into the league in 2017. Two Super Bowl rings (LIV, LVII) and a couple of Super Bowl MVPs (LIV, LVII) already? Yeah, he’s definitely in the GOAT convo. Not to mention that 2018 MVP season and five AFC Championships — clutch doesn’t even cover it. Every year, Mahomes somehow keeps the Chiefs in playoff contention, and he’s not just coasting off talent; he’s out here making magic when the pressure’s on. With 6 Pro Bowl nods and 3 First-Team All-Pro honors, the guy’s collecting accolades like they’re candy. Over 32,000 passing yards and 245 touchdowns in just 8 seasons? That’s insane. And oh yeah, Mahomes shows up every postseason with 7 playoff appearances. When it’s crunch time, he’s always there – and that’s what makes him a different breed.

But, Montana’s legacy is built differently too. This legend led the Niners to four Super Bowl rings, snagged Super Bowl MVP three times, and was basically the definition of calm, cool, and clutch. He ended his career with over 40,000 passing yards and 273 touchdowns. And let’s not sleep on that perfect 4-0 Super Bowl record – that’s a big reason why he’s still a legend.

What’s your perspective on:

Has Patrick Mahomes truly eclipsed Joe Montana, or is Irvin's take just too wild to believe?

Have an interesting take?

At the end of the day, though, Irvin’s point comes down to Mahomes‘ ability to keep balling even without the same squad Montana had. While Montana had GOATs like Jerry Rice and John Taylor, Mahomes has Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill (in the past), who is not a part of the team now. Even when his team hasn’t always been stacked. And that’s why Irvin thinks Mahomes has already claimed the crown – even if Montana’s spot in history is locked. But recent rumors about a certain WR spot aren’t locked, as some teams are eyeing him.

As we all know, players switch when they don’t see any change or any growth in the team. That’s exactly the situation for Tyreek Hill. His future with the Dolphins is getting all kinds of attention. After Miami’s season ended with a tough loss to the Jets. Hill dropped some serious or we can say frustrated comments that had everyone talking. “I’m out. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what’s best for my career, because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there,” Hill said, leaving the door wide open for a move. While he hasn’t officially asked for a trade, his words have definitely gotten fans and analysts buzzing.

Now, the rumors are storming like a cyclone that Hill could end up with a couple of big rivals to the Chiefs. The New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens. Pats are always looking for big-name players, so a move for Hill wouldn’t be a huge surprise. And with the Ravens needing a top receiver to boost their offense, they’re another team reportedly showing interest. Hill’s all about competing for championships, so if he were to join one of these teams. It would definitely shake things up in the AFC.
