Fox made a shocking announcement when it declared that NFL GOAT Tom Brady would replace Greg Olsen as the No. 1 NFL analyst for the 2024 season. This new change will give Tom Brady a 10-year contract of $375 million to talk all things football with the broadcaster. But this also means that Olsen was demoted to No. 2 to serve as an NFL analyst partner to Joe Davis, wherein he’ll be paid $3 million, a sharp dip to his former $10 million salary.
Despite Tom Brady robbing him of his position, Greg Olsen has remained cordial towards him as he previously said, “I understand what a guy like Tom brings to the table. He’s really one of the most iconic figures in the history of the sport. I get it.” As for the 7x SB champ, his nervousness in his new role was apparent right from when he said, “There’s not much opportunity to make a mistake, then if you make it you got to live with it.” And it looks like he’s already got a plan up his sleeves.

In a recent YouTube appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Tom Brady opened up on how he plans to go about his new role as a broadcaster. He first expressed how he tends to get hyper-competitive as a player and as an athlete. But given his new role, competitiveness isn’t the priority for him. “There are definitely parts to me that are hyper competitive… There’s other parts where I feel like I’ve matured a little bit and don’t necessarily have to be absolutely competitive in everything,” the veteran revealed.

Tom Brady, who was one of the most competitive players of all time, saw through how different positions require different mindsets. As a broadcaster, the goal isn’t to beat other commentators. It’s to engage the crowd with the power of speech and wit to make it worth the watch. He said, “I don’t think for me it’s about competition. I think for me it’s about did I put everything I could into it and did I give the fans everything that they tuned in for.” But somewhere else, someone else is cooking up some thoughts.

You can love or hate Greg Olsen for his confidence and the bold statement he made in a video uploaded by Front Office Sports Today. In the video, he said, “My aspirations are still to be a number one analyst, whether it’s at Fox or elsewhere.” After masking his disappointment for quite some time, the recent Sports Emmy Award winner said, “I’m not just happy to have a seat, I want the top seat. I want that wherever that opportunity allows and I’ll never stop working for that.” If he finds a better opportunity somewhere else, Fox could be seeing the last of him, which would be a major blow considering how much traffic he generates with his broadcasting talent.
As for Tom Brady, he’s making sure he’s preparing himself for this “big broadcasting job that’s going to start in September” by being “prepared mentally and emotionally for that challenge” for this new role that’s “outside of [his] comfort zone.” The NFL legend’s first big test will happen in Week 1 when he calls the game between the Cleveland Browns and the Dallas Cowboys.
