The Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert seem to have an unbreakable bond. Now, even more, the team has gotten a new level of change, starting with the new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, and the other coaching staff and players who followed the former Wolverines coach into the franchise.
However, despite being new, Harbaugh has some master plan for quarterback Herbert. Andy Bischoff draws parallels with the quarterback legend Peyton Manning to give a blueprint of his scheme. Putting off the load to live up to the legend from Herbert’s shoulders, Jim Harbaugh’s staffer has set realistic expectations from the quarterback.

The Chargers are all set up to provide Herbert with a running game so that Jim Harbaugh’s squad can amass the most offense in years. Bischoff, the Los Angeles run-game coordinator and tight-ends coach, came up with a fascinating insight. He claimed, “Not everyone needs to function like Peyton Manning did to win football games.” Harbaugh’s coaching roster policy is different, as they are not believers in exposing players to a stressful environment.
He further says, “However, in our system of football, do we really need to put him under that much stress on every single down? The answer is ‘no.'” He further gives an alternative solution: instead of providing unjustified pressure on Herbert, a balanced offense will be beneficial in bringing out his greatest strengths.
Being the offensive rookie of the year back in 2020 and making it to the Pro Bowl next season, Harbaugh has introduced stronger ground support for Herbert after researching the quarterback and seeing his videos.

After going through Herbert’s videos, Harbaugh said in an interview, “I’ve gone through all of his tapes, throws. He can make ’em all.” The HC’s expectations from the quarterback stem from his performance records as he enters the fifth season. During his first four seasons, Herbert averaged more than 4,300 passing yards.
Not just this, he amassed 28 touchdown passes and, at the same time, completed 66% of his passes. He has once thrown over 5,000 in his career and posted 30 touchdown passes twice. Herbert already possesses talent, and now that he will be under the tutelage of Harbaugh, who is known for helping quarterbacks elevate their performance, something big awaits for the Chargers.

The Herbert-Chargers companionship went for a toss last season as they came up with an unsatisfactory 5-12 record. Even though the program reached the playoffs in the 2022 season, their fate did not favor after that. Now that Harbaugh has arrived, it is obvious how Herbert uses him to fulfill his expectations.
