Keyshawn Johnson wasn’t impressed with the hip-drop tackle ban in the recent game against Florida. The former WR wasn’t buying any controversial yet innovative defensive tactics for game time. The hip-drop tackle has been the subject of speculation since its inception in football.
However, with Florida’s QB Jordan Travis becoming the latest victim of the infamous tackle, Skip Bayless and Co. weren’t buying any of that! Bayless gave the hip-drop some air time on his podcast and asked the ex-NFL player for his comments. Johnson at once dismissed the tackle and even gave his stern verdict regarding banning it.

Of all the injuries in the NFL and NCAA divisions, none have been worse than those caused by the hip-drop tackle. In his recent podcast episode, Skip Bayless asked his co-panelists’ opinions on the subject. Keyshawn remarked without hesitance, “Ban, just ban the game of football. Cuz you’re suspending Kareem Jackson for hitting too hard. Yeah, I mean plays that would be on highlight tapes looped over and over.”
Fed up with the constant banning of the hip-drop tackle, Keyshawn devised a novel idea to ban the game of football since it never appreciates innovative moves. The Bayless panelists stand divided on the tackle as Skip opines the ploy is injury-prone while the former WR states otherwise. The move came into the limelight as Florida’s QB suffered a season-ending injury.

While the Seminoles won against the North Alabama Lions 58-13, the night would be remembered for something else. It happened during the first quarter, as Jordan Travis, on the quarterback scramble, was tackled. As he went down, the fans gasped as the player’s left leg squished and twisted under the opponent’s linebacker, Shaun Myers.
The reason was that Myers executed the hip-drop tackle. The dreaded tackle has garnered a controversial reputation for causing severe injuries to players. It can be considered an unethical hack to stop offenses from running riot! It’s performed by wrapping hands around the ball carrier and dropping the defender’s weight on the opposition player.
