The NFC Championship Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Commanders brought Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Julian Edelman together. Of course, they were also joined by Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, Howie Long, and Michael Strahan on the sidelines for the pregame coverage, and while they were at it, why not indulge in some football? And so Brady was heard calling “Motion cross!” while Bradshaw imitated waiting to snap the ball.
After the former QB received the snap from Bradshaw, he released a tight spiral pass to Gronkowski. While all this was going on, Edelman and Charles Woodson pretended to be the defenders. Well, it looked like they surely had a lot of fun reliving their football careers. No wonder Edelman took to his official Instagram handle and shared a message for his former Patriots.
On his IG story, he wrote, “Band is back together,” and also shared a clip of the pre-game coverage of the NFC Championship round.
In the clip, Tom Brady and ‘Gronk’ were seen interacting with Edelman, and also looking back at some of the memories together. At one point Brady stated: “The first time I ever yelled at Julian was on this field. It was a preseason game in 2009. I was on about the 35-yard line. He got a punt, he was running side to side and then ended up re-punt and I said, ‘Julian get upfield.’ He catches the ball right after that and goes 70 yards for a touchdown. What a way to break him.”
The funny thing is, Edelman was a rookie back then, and that’s how the duo first interacted during the preseason. However, Brady later confessed that he didn’t even thank Julian, despite the WR going 70 yards for a TD. “I never even got to thank you for that,” the Patriots’ legend stated. But what about Edelman? I mean, we surely want to hear his side of the story, right?
“I was sitting watching this punt coming, and I was yelling at Tom Brady in my head ‘This guy’s never done a punt return in my life’ and then ended up housing it, making the team. We had some great memories here, and the guy made fun of my haircut for two days,” Edelman responded.
On the other hand, Gronkowski stated that he had only played one game at the Lincoln Financial Field. “I want to let you know I’ve only played one game here before and right here, right on this field, right at that 30-yard line,” Gronk stated. “I had a middle read right up the middle with two safeties high. And Tom, you hit me with a bullet right down the middle. I caught at the four-yard line and dragged two guys into the end zone. So one game here, one touchdown for me.”
Clearly, they had a lot of run looking back at their football careers and that’s the reason they once again tried to play pretend football on the sidelines.
Tom Brady still has the fire in him!
Even though these guys have moved on from playing, you can tell the memories are still fresh. Brady’s dry humor, Edelman’s epic plays and Gronk being… well, Gronk—it’s like they never skipped a beat. Watching them relive those moments at Lincoln Financial Field was a reminder that football isn’t just about the game; it’s about the friendships and crazy stories that come with it. Legends, man—they never really leave.
And together, they showed that they can still play. The Fox NFL crew encouraged Brady to throw a pass to Gronkowski in the pregame broadcast. “You gotta put him in motion, Tom!” Jimmy Johnson was heard yelling as the former QB threw a quick spiral toward Gronk.
