Is the GOAT debate incomplete without considering the mindset and humility of legends like Elway?

The debate rages on. Who’s the greatest quarterback? If we stretch it, the game goes beyond. If we try to find out, then the answers vary. Only based on the number of Super Bowls, Tom Brady stands apart with 7 Super Bowls. But every era was different. Let’s check what a legend of the game said about this.

John Elway, the former Broncos quarterback, and two-time Super Bowl winner, appeared on the November 20 episode of the Dan Patrick Show where he talked at length about such rankings. He cleared his stance and said, “I think you just like to be in conversation. I think that you look at all the great quarterbacks that I played against during a lot of times I have so much of respect for, however ultimately win footballs games and championships.” That’s interesting.

When asked if he felt he was better, he answered in the affirmative. However, he also talked about his mindset when he played and revealed that it’s very important to believe in yourself and your skills. According to Elway, a QB has his special skill set, but the mindset has to be sharp and feel better than others.

Elway himself had a great career. He is often talked about whenever there is a debate about the greatest signal caller. When he retired from the NFL in 1999, he had the most victories by a starter. However, any debate about the GOAT is incomplete without Tom Brady. He achieved everything on the football field. His Super Bowl wins are the most and are a tough task to achieve.

While the ex-quarterback had a smile while talking about his playing career, he also had a view about the rookies in the league.

John Elway agrees with Tom Brady’s views

Every master was once a beginner, are the golden words of life. Every great quarterback always remembers the time when they were a rookie. Tom Brady had famously said that he needed to sit as it helped him gain some perspective on the competition in the league. That’s what John Elway agreed with as well.

While discussing the Patriots QB’s stance, the Broncos QB said, “I agree with Tom on the fact that the perspective of not being in the middle of the heat and having a chance to be the backup, watching on the sidelines was a big, big plus for me.” He reminisced about the time when he was benched after the 4th game.

The prominent rookies of the league in 2024, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Caleb Williams, must be listening to the great. A few years from now, they might become the superstars of the league. A super of today retires while the rookie takes his place. That’s how the sports world works.
