There is always a downside to being the best, which not many people acknowledge. The expectations of a great athlete are usually set so high that even the player himself or herself may find it hard to live up to them. On Sanday’s match against the Broncos, Chief’s star quarterback, and Tom Brady’s top pick for a potential successor, Patrick Mahomes faltered and was brutally punished.
Skip Bayless was quick to call the quarterback out and even made a very unpopular remark sending NFL fans into a frenzy. However, this is not the first time the sports analyst has taken a stance against the three-time Super Bowl winner.

Following their initial hiccup during their season opener match against the Saints, the Chiefs have managed to maintain a clean sheet thus far. However, on Sunday’s match-up against the Broncos, the odds seem to weigh in against the reigning Super Bowl Champions. The Chiefs put up a super performance allowing the Boronks to break a 17-match losing streak against their divisional rival, that too with a gaping difference in the scoreline. Even their star quarterback was under the weather and failed to perform his usual best. Skip Bayless took to platform X, formerly Twitter, to voice his opinion, “Joe Burrow >>>Patrick Mahomes.” He quickly followed it up with another post-match jab, “Wait, Mahomes and Kelce couldn’t score a single touchdown against the Broncos who gave up 70 to the Dolphins that could’ve been 80???” referring to the tight end’s inability to deliver.

He later dissected the moments of the match on ‘Undisputed,’ and analyzed, “WHAT HAPPENED TO MAHOMES AND KELCE AND THE CHIEFS YESTERDAY?” He had earlier debated on similar lines in August as well. Despite the recent upset, the Kansas City team holds a 6-2 season lead, while the Bengals are behind with a 4-3 record.

Despite the recent upset, the Kansas City team holds a 6-2 season lead, while the Bengals are behind with a 4-3 record. However, Mahomes had a solid reason to support his failing performance.
Mahomes’ ailing performance
Undoubtedly, Mahomes serves as the linchpin of the offense, and when he encounters difficulties, it has a ripple effect on the entire team. Mahomes’ performance on “flu day football” failed to match expectations. The quarterback took ill on Saturday night and required IV treatment. Nevertheless, he decided to proceed with the game on Sunday. Mahomes completed 24 of 38 passes for 241 yards but was unable to sustain it. He failed to score even a single touchdown and instead was intercepted twice, lost a fumble, and ended up getting sacked three times.

Fumble or not, Skip Bayless seemed to stir things sup with the flu. We went the extra mile blaming Mahome’s wife, Brittany for the flue, “Did he catch it from his wife and two kids? I’m sure he did.” Well, that might have been a step too far for even Bayless. How do you think the NFL fans are going to react to that? Let us know in the comments.
