The Los Angeles Chargers aren’t done augmenting their coaching roster yet. HC Jim Harbaugh has already tasted success with most of the coaches he brought to LA with him. And now, another familiar offensive genius could be on his way to join the Chargers to assist Harbaugh in his quest to exceed his brother John Harbaugh’s success in the pro league. Who could it be?
John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens offense thrived under their former OC Greg Roman. But now that he’s left the franchise, Jim Harbaugh isn’t going to waste any time to land this mastermind with whom he had a successful history.

A recent report by Ian Rapoport revealed that Jim Harbaugh is expected to bring in former Ravens OC Greg Roman to LA. According to the report, the offensive mind is expected to take up a “prominent spot on the staff of Jim Harbaugh, as he’s heading there tomorrow.” Details to it will follow as “the two sides are working out details.”
If Jim Harbaugh secures Roman, it’s going to be a big win for the Chargers because the 51-year-old is an offensive genius with over two decades of OC experience. The best part is that Harbaugh has a long-term experience working together with him who served alongside him as the associate HC at Stanford from 2009-10 and OC at San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14.
During those years, the 49ers flourished. They reached multiple NFC Championship Games and made it to the Super Bowl in 2012. And what a memorable event that was! That Super Bowl saw the Harbaugh brothers face off as John Harbaugh’s Ravens went against Jim Harbaugh’s 49ers.

Coming back to Roman, his official position at the Chargers isn’t clear yet. An associate or assistant head coach is a type of title that Roman could occupy. His presence is likely to give Jim Harbaugh what’s needed to overtake his brother.

How can Greg Roman assist Jim Harbaugh?
The Chargers ended their last season 5-12 which ultimately led to the firing of HC Brandon Staley. With the team’s lackluster record, Jim Harbaugh is aware that he’s nowhere near his brother and the Ravens who played at the 2023 AFC Championship Game. This has led him to make a major change in personnel.

Greg Roman has a spectacular record and is best known for his ability to use the power run scheme to lead the passing game. While with the Ravens, he worked with QB Lamar Jackson from 2019 to 2022. But in 2023, he resigned due to internal differences in offensive philosophy. Now Jim Harbaugh already has high hopes for their starting QB Justin Herbert and his connection with Roman is one of the many steps he’s taking to develop him so that he can lead the Chargers to new heights in 2024 and beyond.
