With Jim Harbaugh stepping up as the new Los Angeles Chargers head coach, a lot of eyes and ears are on him. Last week, he had his first press conference with the Chargers where a particular sentence did him more harm than good. He said his goal for the Chargers is “to win multiple championships.”
Of course, this single sentence didn’t resonate well with spectators and listeners because of multiple reasons. For a team that’s been on the run for 64 seasons without a single Super Bowl win, it’s definitely a bold statement to declare. And the Odd Couple is here to bust Harbaugh’s statement.

The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker appeared on Fox Sports Radio’s YouTube channel to talk about Harbaugh’s introductory press conference speech with the Chargers. Parker came on strong to oppose the 60-year-old’s “multiple championships” promise saying, “It’s just unnecessary. We want to win a championship. Can we start there? Multiple? Does he understand what organization he took over? You just got the job because they flamed out… It’s just talk.” Broussard, meanwhile, opposed his co-host saying, “Send the message to your players. We’re not conceding anything. We got a goal and it is to win championships.”
It’s true Jim Harbaugh’s last experience in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers didn’t end the way he wished it to end. But it wasn’t unsuccessful either as he led his team to three straight NFC Championships. It’s no secret that Harbuagh’s “unfinished business” is chasing a Super Bowl win, one that he failed to do with the 49ers. There’s nothing wrong with having lofty goals such as winning multiple championships, but being humble is to look at one’s place first. And by the looks of it, the Chargers are in a deep trench.

The LA Chargers have a lot of catching up to do
The Chargers have been in existence since 1960 but success seems elusive. The only major win they have until now is their sole AFL Championship in 1963 in the pre-AFL-NFL merger era. They won their only AFC Championship Game in 1994 leading to their sole Super Bowl appearance.

Jim Harbaugh is taking up the reins for a team that suffered terribly last season ending with 5-12 and falling last in the AFC West. Their dismal performance led to the firing of the former HC Brandon Staley. But now under the leadership of Jim Harbaugh who recently led his former team to a National Championship victory, hopefully, things will turn around for the Chargers.
