The Dallas Cowboys are back in the spotlight, and surprise, surprise—it’s thanks to Jerry Jones stirring the pot again. The big shocker this week (aside from the Commanders pulling off a last-minute win over the Bucs) was Mike McCarthy parting ways with the Cowboys. On Jan. 13, the team announced that they and Mike ‘mutually agreed‘ to go their separate ways. How ‘mutual’ was it, though? Only Mike knows. Just like that, Jerry got everyone talking about the Cowboys.  And if that wasn’t enough, former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman dropped some harsh comments, and even a Hall of Famer jumped in to share his two cents.

Troy Aikman, who spent 12 years as the Cowboys’ QB, has never been shy about sharing his thoughts—whether it’s about the Cowboys or the NFL in general. So, when news dropped that Jerry Jones had ‘mutually’ parted ways with Mike McCarthy, Aikman didn’t hold back. He wasn’t too thrilled about the move, and his take stirred up some drama. Aikman straight-up said that being the Cowboys’ head coach might not even be a ‘coveted’ job anymore. A claim that 2017 Hall of Famer Kurt Warner openly disagreed with. I think it’s always desirable from the standpoint that you know if +you win as a Dallas Cowboy if you have success as a Dallas Cowboy, you’re going to get notoriety. And you’re going to have you know that platform. That I think you know every player and every coach covets right,” said Warner.

Aikman has called out Jerry Jones for his ‘not-so-desired’ antics. And always poking his nose into the team’s business more than needed. As far as [Dallas being] a coveted job, I don’t know that that is accurate. I do think the Cowboys are obviously a high-profile team… But I think most football people who take over as a head coach, want to do it on their terms. And that’s hard to do.”

Adding to the situation, Warner, who appeared on the Dan Patrick Show, said, You’ve got an owner that wants to be out at the forefront. And the owner saying things that you know as a coach you’re like I don’t want anybody saying that you know. I want to keep this stuff in house. I want to be able to lead here. You’ve got to fight your ownership a little bit in what they’re saying and deal with that.”

Troy Aikman is upset over Jerry Jones’ decision

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jerry Jones' meddling the real reason behind the Cowboys' 30-year Super Bowl drought?

Have an interesting take?

I think Mike McCarthy is an outstanding football coach. He’s proven that in this league.” This is what Troy Aikman had to say about the Cowboys releasing Mike. And no doubt, Mike is. He led the Packers to a Super Bowl win. But sometimes, people just end up in the wrong places. Somewhere they don’t belong. Was this the case with McCarthy as well? The 61-year-old has been coaching Dallas since the year COVID hit the world, but he couldn’t lead them to a Super Bowl win. Then again, neither could anyone before him. It’s been thirty years since the Cowboys last grabbed those Super Bowl rings.

I thought Mike McCarthy would be the head coach, so this is a bit of a surprise for me today that he’s not going to be. What went into those conversations, I’m not exactly sure. But it suggests that there’s not a real plan,” said Aikman. Just a few weeks ago, when Jerry Jones was asked about McCarthy, he clearly expressed that he had no intentions of parting ways with the HC.

And now, here we are, hearing that McCarthy has walked out the door. So, is this linked to Jerry Jones‘ ‘not-so-acceptable’ antics that fans often talk about? Everyone knows that Jones loves to stay involved in all decisions, even in areas where people think he shouldn’t be. There’s a good chance that Mike chose to walk away because of that.

It’s a shocker for everyone, especially since McCarthy had earlier declined the Bears’ request for an interview, which made fans believe he would stay with Dallas. But no, you can’t get predictable in the NFL. If you place bets here, you’re most likely going to lose. As Mike parted ways, Jerry Jones is on the hunt to find a new coach on his own. It will be interesting to see who Mr. Jones brings in now for the next season.
