Beating cancer is the closest thing to beating death. That moment when you first come to know that you don’t have cancer anymore, it’s overwhelming. It’s such an empowering, yet humbling moment. So many emotions flood your head. Feelings of joy, tears of happiness. Remembering the pain the survivor had to endure, and the innumerable times doubt had crept into their minds. Before Cancer kills you physically, sometimes, the path to recovery is so daunting that many lose the spirit to keep fighting.
In October 2023, former New York Giants defensive end and current FOX NFL Sunday analyst Michael Strahan got to know that his daughter, Isabella has cancer. On her 19th birthday, Isabella underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor. And then started the excruciating chemotherapy and radiation therapy. We don’t know if Michael ever thought that day would come when his daughter would be cancer-free. But his daughter has fought cancer and won, and Michael is so proud of the strength shown by both his daughters.
On Instagram, Michael Strahan wrote, “Love you and so proud of you, @isabellastrahan and @sophialstrahan❤️❤️”. Dark times show you who is there for you. For Isabella, it was her twin sister, Sophia, who took the initiative to tell their parents about her symptoms. The prompt diagnosis and swift surgery made sure the tumor was still small and removed before more damage was done.

And after that, Sophia was Isabella’s true companion: “Whatever you’ll go through, I’ll be present. I’ll be your ride and die.” The surgery, though massively important, is just a part of the recovery. While Isabella had to endure the chemo and radiation treatment, her family gave their all energy to be there for her: “My mom would sleep in the hospital with me.” In turn, Isabella’s mother, Jean Muggli, feels the grace with which her daughter faced the hellish journey is truly amazing.
Isabella’s spirit was unbreakable. She did anything and everything to come out of this a winner. Coincidentally, she ended up creating something that can be an inspiration for the whole world.

While Isabella was going through recovery, she started vlogging about her day-to-day conditions and improvements on her YouTube channel and connected with other cancer survivors. Now, Isabella wants to share her story and many other survivors’ journeys she came across through her documentary – Prime Time Special “Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan’s Fight against Cancer” – which is set to air on Feb 5 on ABC.
In the documentary, which will also be available on Disney+, Isabella, her sister Sophia, their mother and Michael will share the emotions of going through this journey and coming out on the right end. They will also talk about their physical and mental struggles during the last 14 months and how they coped with it. Michael Strahan says he is too close to it to watch his daughter’s vlogs. But Isabella’s actions will give many people the strength to be fearless and handle the cancer treatment.
