For nearly a quarter of a century, Jimmy Johnson has been a staple of football Sundays on Fox. His presence on the network was like clockwork—just as reliable as the postgame debates, the halftime hot takes, and the inevitable Cowboys controversy. Fans tuned in not just for his football wisdom but for that unmistakable charisma, the laid-back delivery, and of course, that iconic hair that never seemed to move.
But now, after 31 years in broadcasting—and 17 of them alongside the same crew at Fox—the legendary coach-turned-analyst has decided to call it a career. No more spirited debates with Terry Bradshaw, no more playful back-and-forths with Michael Strahan, and no more perfectly timed one-liners that could cut through any segment.
The announcement of his departure has left his peers at Fox quite emotional. And they have been sending all their love to Coach Jimmy. For them, this wasn’t just a co-worker stepping away—it was the end of a dynasty. And Charissa Thompson, one of Fox’s most beloved faces, made sure to send him off in style… with a message straight from the heart and a dance move or two to match.

Thompson shared a parting note for Jimmy in which she looked back and shared some of her favorite memories with Mr. Johnson. On Monday, she shared a series of stories featuring the Hall of Fame coach. The first picture featured a thank-you post by Fox Sports, which Charissa captioned, “Gonna miss you coach,” as she reposted it on her IG. In the next two slides, she gave her followers a sneak peek at Jimmy’s sparkling side. She shared a picture in which the two can be seen rocking some dance moves, with Rob Gronkowski also trying to fit in with the duo. “You are my favorite dance partner,” she wrote.

Well, with Jimmy’s departure, Sundays on Fox are not going to be the same. Charissa would second that. The Fox reporter shared a sweet memory with the former Cowboys coach. The dance video featured behind the scenes footage from Sunday Night Football. “Sundays won’t be the same without you. We love you. You are a vibe Coach,” wrote Thompson. Johnson and Charissa’s dance video also featured Giants legend Michael Strahan. He could be seen laughing sitting in his analyst chair as the duo showed off some dance moves.
Speaking of Strahan, the legendary defensive end also shared a farewell post for the Hall of Fame coach. “Congratulations on your retirement @jimmyjohnson4616! It has been 17 seasons of fun and laughs sitting next to you. You’re truly one of a kind, and thanks for being you and gifting me with one of the best friendships anyone could ever ask for,” captioned Michael. The former DE also wished the 81-year-old more time ‘fishing‘ and ‘drinking beer on the boat.‘

A look back at Jimmy Johnson’s journey
Johnson’s NFL career started as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech University. Jimmy spent 24 years shaping college football players until his friend Jerry Jones knocked on his door in 1989, offering him the head coaching job for the Dallas Cowboys. Jimmy accepted and took command of the team. His rookie season with the Cowboys went poorly, managing only a single win. But that didn’t last long. The Cowboys went from just one win to seven the next season. And in 1992, Jimmy Johnson led the Cowboys to victory in Super Bowl XXVII, defeating the Buffalo Bills.

After his first Super Bowl win, Jimmy snagged another one the very next season. But in 1993, his journey with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys came to an end. The reason? Jerry, as the GM, wanted more control over football operations, and Jimmy didn’t agree with that. Well, Mr. Jones hasn’t changed a bit even after 32 years. After saying goodbye to Dallas, Jimmy had a brief stint with Fox as an analyst. He returned to the NFL in 1996 as the Dolphins‘ head coach, but after four seasons, he said goodbye to coaching for good.

In 2002, Jimmy returned to Fox and has been there ever since, until Monday. “I’ve been thinking about it for the last four or five years. I’ve decided to retire from Fox,” the 81-year-old announced on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. Well, after so many years of watching him as a staple, we’ll miss him like family.
