Home/NFL

On March 17, 2020, the popular ABC show, Strahan, Sara & Keke was suspended as the COVID-19 pandemic took over the United States. The show hosted by NFL star Michael Strahan, Sara Hines, and former Nickelodeon actress Keke Palmer had become a fan favorite and many were expecting a return after the break, during which it was replaced by Pandemic: What You Need to Know. However, by June the new temporary show had replaced the two-season series permanently.

Michael Strahan had been under fire for the last few weeks. During the Fox NFL Sunday’s special Veterans Day segment broadcast on November 10, Strahan was seen not placing a hand over his chest while his colleagues did during the National Anthem. This led to backlash on social media, with Strahan having to clarify what had gone down. But after facing that angry vitriol, Strahan is feeling some love from the fans.

Even though the Strahan, Sara & Keke was slated to return after the pandemic, we never saw the trio on ABC together again. While many wondered what was the reason behind the cancelation, ? Keke Palmer spilled the tea during Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. She said, “I knew if our show did come back, it would have to be much, much, much later because our show is really about an audience,” Keke said. She wasn’t wrong. The trio—Michael Strahan, Sara Haines, and Keke—built the show on lively banter, fun conversations, and unmatchable audience energy.

When the pandemic hit, those elements? Gone. ABC pivoted to Pandemic: What You Need to Know, and SSK never returned. Tough loss for daytime TV fans. Many felt the show’s lighthearted tone didn’t quite fit the vibe of 2020, a year that demanded harder-hitting content. Even Keke acknowledged, “Some of the conversation has changed, and that pushed Strahan, Sara & Keke out.”

It’s not easy keeping things bubbly when the world’s tuned into COVID-19 updates 24/7. The show was eventually replaced by GMA3: What You Need to Know, a news-heavy format that aligned better with the times.

We did get to see a mini-reunion of the cast, when Strahan interviewed Palmer at the Apollo Theater in New York, as part of her book tour, “The Many Masters.” Palmer posted a throwback video on Instagram of her interaction with Strahan from November 17. The video captured the two former co-hosts’ heartwarming reunion as they embraced each other before heading to the theatre.

It was no surprise that fans they flocked to Palmer’s Instagram post and wished for the cast to be back with their ABC show.

Fans want Michael Strahan and Co. to return!

What’s your perspective on:

Did 'Strahan, Sara & Keke' end too soon, or was it the right call for the times?

Have an interesting take?

The fans were reminiscing about her chemistry with Michael Strahan and Sara Haines on Strahan, Sara & Keke. Keke’s clip featured Strahan and her line, “I remember working with you at our job and seeing how you showcased our culture and represented who we are and protected it at the same time,” hit home. That vibe, that connection—it’s exactly what fans have been missing. One fan nailed it with, “I miss their show. They have good chemistry.” Let’s be real; who doesn’t love a trio that clicks like that?

Plus, the way it ended something felt amiss…. That’s why another fan chimed in, “Strahan, Sara, and Keke shouldn’t have been canceled.” The show had this unique energy—a mix of fun, relatability, and a dash of sass that’s rare on daytime TV. Initially, the show premiered on September 10, 2018, as GMA Day, with Strahan and Sara Hines as hosts.

Keke officially joined the team in 2019, and the rebranded show took off. Reminiscing the good times from the show, a fan wrote, “I swear I miss you, him and Sarah your show good Lord I wish they would bring it back. I mean, you probably don’t but… I know I do.”

Another fan wished, “I wish you two had a show together again.” Since SSK ended, Sara’s kept busy—hosting The Chase and co-hosting The View. But fans? They’re still holding out for a reunion. And we are all here for it. Another fan demanded, “Give the girl back her show!!!”

One more wrote, “I loved all three of them.” Sharing their feelings about his reunion on November 17, a fan shared, “They Go Together.”  And then there’s Sara Haines, who wasn’t in Keke’s clip but still got love from the fans. One even tagged her: “The vibe with them and @sarahaines was so cool and fun.”

It’s clear the love for SSK hasn’t faded. Fans don’t just miss the show; they miss the feeling it brought. As they say, every sweet thing comes to an end. But this show met its end rather prematurely and unexpectedly. Maybe, after seeing the enthusiasm for it among the fans, ABC might consider bringing the gang together at least one more time.
