The excitement around NBA vs. NFL dunk contest is heating up — all thanks to social media! Or, perhaps, thanks to Rob Gronkowski and Robert Griffin III.

Picture your beloved NFL player attempting a football dunk or your preferred quarterback executing a tomahawk slam in mid-air. It sounds like a fun and exciting experience, doesn’t it?

Fans of both sports are excited about a potential dunk contest! It all started with a jaw-dropping dunk by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson. This impressive feat caught the eye of veteran quarterback Robert Griffin III, who reignited the idea of a cross-sport dunk contest.

Former NFL star Rob Gronkowski joined the party. He posted a video on Instagram showcasing his own impressive dunking skills with the caption, “Some Dunks just for fun.” Gronk’s perfect jump and flawless execution showed he’d be a serious contender in a dunk contest.

This isn’t the first time the NFL has set foot in slam dunking. In the 1990s, Cowboys stars like Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin participated in exciting dunk contests. However, the NFL’s version never reached the same popularity level as the NBA’s annual event.

A few years ago, Gronk showcased his hoop talents in the Monster Energy Big 3 celebrity league, even throwing down a dunk! Some NBA coaches even noticed his talent. Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden famously compared him to NBA legends LeBron James and Steph Curry. Even Gronk responded excitedly, stating, “I’ve got the power and I’ve got the quickness? I’ll take that.” He also boasted about his high school days, packing the gym with “high-flying dunks.”

Rob Gronkowski proudly declared, “I was the No. 1 dunker… had to throw down my jams every game.” It seems Gronk might be the one to rekindle a dunk contest in the NFL. It seems there are now more NFL players capable of giving NBA slam dunkers a serious challenge.
