You either leave as a hero or watch yourself become a villain. That’s what happened with Mr. Packer, Brett Favre, following his ugly divorce with Green Bay. Although it was an open secret that he was pushed out to make room for then-future four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, Favre had the chance to enact revenge the following year.
Joining the Vikings in 2009, Favre made his first trip back to Green Bay wearing the purple and gold. And the result? Well, it went down as one of the greatest revenge games in the league’s history. Favre dunked four TDs on his previous backyard, giving the Vikings a mammoth 38-26 victory on the day. But when it came to remembering that moment, the HOFer called that game somewhat emotional because of his ties to the Cheeseheads.
Reposting a tweet that had Favre in his Vikings uniform celebrating with the fans at Lambeau Field. The 3-time NFL MVP wrote, “That was an emotional game. I loved the Packers organization but had a job to do for the Vikings. Let me just say — both fan groups are fantastic.” So Favre decided to play it safe instead of gushing over a single franchise. Well, this would save him from the fans of either of those franchises, who could have called him out if he had taken either side.

15 years from that fateful day on, the Packers would surely remember that Favre still had it in him when they saw him returning to Green Bay in a different jersey. Completing 17-of-28 passes for 244 yards, Favre had a passer rating of 128.6. However, his successor, Rodgers, wasn’t that far away either. He completed 26-of-41 passes for 287 yards while throwing 2 TDs that didn’t do any damage. But hold on, this wasn’t the only time he faced off against the Packers.
His first meeting with them came in Minnesota, where the result wasn’t any different. Even in week 4’s clash in the Metrodome, Favre scored three TDs while leading the Vikings to a close 30-23 victory. As for Favre, he ended up blaming himself for his messy divorce from the Packers, which ended his 16-year association.

Brett Favre stepped forward to accept all the blame after ending his Packers’ reign
You would have to go back to 2013 when Favre first opened up publicly to talk about his Packers exit. Sitting down for a radio interview with WGR 550-AM, Favre said, “It’s over and down with. I was at fault. I feel that both sides had a part in it. If you could go back, would I or them have done things differently? I’m sure both sides would. But you can’t.” Well, Favre, who always contemplated retiring in his later years with Green Bay, finally retired in 2007.
However, he ended up taking a U-turn on his decision in 2008 while trying to get back into the Packers team. But it was just as they had already started moving on with Rodgers as their QB for the future. His eventual return to the Packers led them to strike a trade deal with the Jets. It sounds familiar, right for what’s going on with Aaron’s career right now. As for Favre, he ended up signing with the Vikings after a year in green and white. And two years after signing with the Vikings, Favre retired for good. Although there were initial talks within Green Bay in 2008 to retire Favre’s number 4 jersey, that plan eventually came into motion in 2015.

And after a year of seeing himself finally getting recognition in Cheesehead, Favre was inducted into the HOF’s class of 2016. So, after all, he got the farewell he deserved from both the league and his first home in Green Bay.
