The New York Jets have been placed in the limelight since the return of the prodigal NFL player. The news about former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick seeking a position with the Jets and getting shut out is enough to get the interest going. But there’s more.
Since his controversial exit from the NFL in 2017, Colin Kaepernick has remained a free agent who only needed a stage to play. Although faced with rejection from the Jets, he still has a bright prospect, according to Pat McAfee. The former NFL punter has an interesting proposal for Colin Kaepernick where he could put his skills to use.

In a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the sports analyst and commentator shows his support for Colin Kaepernick, whose attempt to return to the NFL hit rock bottom with the Jets. Pat McAfee said that the “XFL would be a… perfect proving ground” for the prodigal player. He goes on to do some math on the league’s practice squad paycheck to substantiate his point.
The last time Colin Kaepernick played in the NFL was in 2016 with the 49ers. The reason why he became a controversial player is his dramatic behavior during a preseason game in 2016. He sat down despite the US national anthem being played because he was protesting against police brutality, racial injustice, and national oppression.
His comeback to the NFL wasn’t met with open arms when he wrote a letter to the New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas as a replacement for Aaron Rodgers. He requested to be the Jets practice squad quarterback. Although there isn’t a public response to Kaepernick’s letter, the answer is already clear as the Jets already have enough on their plate.

Pat McAfee took to this issue, putting into account the 35-year-old’s desire to be in the practice squad. He compared the practice squad weekly paychecks of the NFL and XFL, which are $7,500 x 17 and $11,500 x 17, respectively. Colin Kaepernick is already a popular face in football, and his joining the new XFL would be a win-win for both parties.
XFL – League of Second Chances
The XFL is a new football league owned by Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Red Bird Capital Partners. This is what The Rock has to say about XFL, “it’s an uphill battle – but we’re hungry, humble and no one will outwork us.“
Colin Kaepernick broke two NFL records with 181 rushing yards in a game and 264 rushing yards in a postseason as a quarterback. In the past, Colin Kaepernick has also expressed his wish to even be a backup in the XFL, although he “didn’t want to stay as a backup for long.“
