“He’s going number one overall. He’s going number one overall.” Deion Sanders, father of Shedeur Sanders, boldly predicted that his son would be the first overall pick back in December 2024. Fast forward to a couple of months, Coach Prime had a change of mind as he noted that, “I think it’s going to be one of the top three, for sure.” But here we are, and 32 teams ignored the 23-year-old QB like it’s nothing. But why?

Well, there could be a couple of reasons. For starters, the NFL legend, Dan Orlovsky, earlier noted that “75% of his (Shedeur) snaps don’t matter, and that’s the reality for everybody that’s evaluating Shedeur Sanders.” Translation? Well, as per Orlovsky, half of Sanders’ passes are super short, like under 5 yards, and it’s hard for the NFL scouts to evaluate him.

To make it worse, Shedeur had opportunities at the Shrine Bowl and the combine to compete and prove his worth to the NFL teams. But nah, he declined it and claimed that his college tape was all NFL teams needed to see. Not the kind of decision teams expected. But let’s not sugarcoat this. Considering the kid declared for the NFL draft after recording a career-high 4,134 yards and completed 74 percent of his passes in the last season, if not in the top 10, Shedeur could certainly be a first-round pick.

And no one knows this feeling better than the Eagles legend, DeSean Jackson. On Friday, Jackson took to his IG handle and shared a message for Shedeur with a slight hint of warning to the teams. “They hating on the yung fella I was once in your shoes lil bra @shedeursanders. Now go make them pay 4 (for) it!! Those teams that passed on you, even the team that pick you, it’s all for a bigger reason. Gods plan,” he wrote in his IG story while tagging Coach Prime.

Jackson, a former second-round pick, was expected to be one of the top 10 wide receivers in the 2008 NFL draft. But the Eagles eventually picked him in the second round, 49th overall. However, that didn’t stop him from becoming one of the best deep threats in the league in a career spanning 16 years.

As for Shedeur… well, his situation is a bit tricky right now. The guy was expected to be one of the top quarterbacks available in this year’s class. But nope. The teams picked only two QBs—the Titans picked Cam Ward, and the Giants picked Jaxson Dart.

After Derek Carr’s shoulder injury, the NFL analysts predicted that Kellen Moore and the Saints would pick Shedeur at No. 9. Instead, the New Orleans team picked Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. On the flip side, if there was one team screaming for a quarterback on Day 1, it was the Steelers. So what did they do? Yep, they passed, too.

Instead, they went with Oregon’s big man up front—Derrick Harmon (standing at 6’4” and weighing over 300 pounds)—at No. 21. Now that all eyes shift to day 2 of the draft, everyone’s expecting where Shedeur will land? And that’s where things get pretty interesting.

What’s your perspective on:

Did NFL teams make a huge mistake passing on Shedeur Sanders, or is he overrated?

Have an interesting take?

Who will take a chance on Shedeur Sanders?

The 23-year-old quarterback started all four seasons of his career. While the first two came playing for Jackson State, Shedeur spent the final two seasons under his dad at Colorado, alongside his brother, Shilo, and the receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter (picked by the Jaguars at 2nd overall). Across four seasons of his career, he had 134 touchdowns and 14,347 yards.

Though Sanders and his agents were confident that he would be one of the top selections. And yet, somehow, we’re still waiting. Waiting for day 2 to unfold, hoping it finally brings some closure to Shedeur Sanders’ long, restless night. So the big question: where could he land now? The Cleveland Browns have the 33rd overall pick on day 2 of the draft.

They smartly traded down before picking Mason Graham with a fifth overall pick. Considering Deshaun Watson’s injury struggles, they’d like to add a quarterback to their roster. However, if the Browns pass on him, the Raiders, Saints, or even the Jets could use their respective picks to draft him. All of them are picking before No. 42. For the time being, the Saints are still one of the top contenders to pick him.

So yeah, the way things are shaping up, it is expected that Shedeur Sanders will not have to wait longer before any team calls his name on Friday. Whether it would be the Browns, the Raiders, or the Saints would finally put an end to their QB conundrum, we’ll see on day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft.
