If you ask any Gen-Z Saints fan about the New Orleans team, they’re probably talking about Derek Carr—or maybe venting about last season’s rough finish. But with Kellen Moore now at the helm, things are picking up fast, and the team is looking sharp. Exciting, right? But hold up—let’s rewind a bit. Think back to February 2, 2010. What’s the big deal? That was the day the Saints won their first Super Bowl—and so far only. And the hero of that team? No doubt about it—it was Drew Brees.

After leading the team to victory in Super Bowl XLIV, the 46-year-old became a legend in New Orleans. And today? It’s a truly special day for Drew Brees. Just a few hours ago, he shared a heartfelt Instagram video, reflecting on moments with the team’s late owner. His caption read: “Signed with the Saints 19 years ago on Friday. The Saints owner, Mr. Tom Benson, passed away seven years ago yesterday.” He also added, “God bless the Who Dat Nation!” On this day in 2006, the Saints signed Brees—and in just four years, he proved he was more than worth it.

Drew signed a $60,000,000 six-year deal with the franchise in 2006. But after his first contract itself, the franchise never let him go till the 2020 season. And the bond between him and the Saints is still the same five years after retirement. In October 2024, Drew Brees said, “I also played those extra years because every day I woke up saying to myself, ‘I want to win for the guys in the locker room. Do not want to let them down. I have too much to play for,'” reflecting on his dedication and love for the franchise, for whom he had extended his NFL career a bit longer. Pretty great to hear, right?

But do you know there is one Saints player who can challenge Drew Brees as a dedicated player? Yup, there is one, and surprisingly, he will also play in the upcoming season, which is going to be a record-breaking season. Wanna know which contract Drew Brees is under the shadow of breaking? Let’s dive in!

Drew Brees’s legendary record for the Saints is under threat

As we all know, Drew Brees wore the Saints jersey for 15 years, starting in 228 games. However, Cam Jordan‘s recent re-signing may soon break Brees’s record for most games played as a Saint. The Saints drafted the 35-year-old defensive star in 2011 as the 24th overall pick—and since then, he’s never left the city or given the organization a reason to let him go.

Over his 14 years of career with the New Orleans team, Cameroon Jordan falls short of just three games to surpass Drew Brees in most games played for the organization with a total tally of 226 games. There was a hazy picture a few days ago over Cam Jordan’s future with the Saints, but seems like the face of the Saints is not going anywhere!

Cam Jordan, according to the 2023 contract details, will earn a base salary of $12,500,000. In 2023, the legendary player signed an extension for a $27,917,647 deal. But let’s not forget that the Saints’ No. 94 had only one condition to play for this team once again. “I’ve always said I want to win a Super Bowl in the black and gold. So if it ain’t no less of black and gold, maybe it’s not for me,” he said on iHearts Podcast. Let’s see if the legendary defender is gonna lead the team to the postseason this time or not!
