NFL legend Tom Brady and his friend Jim Gray are being tied to the Josh McDaniels situation. The 46-year-old former QB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been in the spotlight ever since his retirement in February. Though the Patriots legend has moved on from the sport as a player, he continues to stir up headlines off the field with his opinions and associations.
Josh McDaniels, the coach for the Las Vegas Raiders, was recently released from the team after a string of poor performances. The former offensive coordinator for the Patriots has witnessed a major downfall from winning 6 Super Bowls with Brady to now being released after just 2 seasons. While his exit continues to stir up questions, it seems that Brady‘s friend Jim Gray had a lot to do with the release of his OC of 14 seasons.

Skip Bayless recently made the claims that Tom Brady had a direct hand in the controversial release of Josh McDaniels. He talked about how Mark Davis, the owner of the Raiders, must have approached Brady to get his opinion on the head coach after a string of losses. Davis had agreed to make a deal with Brady in May to make him a minority owner of the Raiders. Though the deal has still not been finalized, it’s quite possible that Brady’s input must’ve been valuable to Davis and thus, helped him to make a decision.
Amy Trask, the former CEO of the Oakland Raiders, said “Jim Gray, who has a connection with Tom Brady, is one of [Davis’s] very, very primary advisors. So, he does have an advisor outside the building.” She affirmed the claims that Jim Gray, a very close friend of Brady, advised Davis to carry out the release of McDaniels. The fans can’t help but wonder why Brady would help in the firing of the same person who had been a part of his 7-time Super Bowl journey.
What exactly led to the release of Josh McDaniels?
The Raiders have had an extremely disappointing season this year. Prior to McDaniels’s release, their record stood at a shocking 3-5. They haven’t been able to perform well at all and their recent loss to the Detroit Lions only added fuel to the fire. The Raiders got massively upstaged by the Lions when they lost by a staggering score of 26-14, which eventually confirmed the doubt about McDaniels release that Davis previously had.
In retrospect, the legacies of Bill Belichick & Josh McDaniels have tarnished since Tom Brady left the Pats. So who was responsible for NE’s success? Tom Brady won another Super Bowl, McDaniels was fired as a HC a second time, & the Pats are bottom dwellers under Bill.

Many fans claim that McDaniel’s success only exists due to the fact that Brady was on the Patriots squad for so many years. Even Bill Belichick, the legendary coach, is seeing a massive downfall in the team’s performance which further proves the Brady theory. But while the Raiders have eyes out for a new coach, it will be interesting to see where McDaniels lands after just 2 seasons with the Raiders.
