It’s triple the heartbreak for Jerry Jones! Not only have the Dallas Cowboys been eliminated from championship contention with a dilapidated 7-10 record, but the misery has come from people he once called his own. Yes, we’re talking about former Cowboys defensive coordinator, and current Washington Commanders HC Dan Quinn. On December 22 last year, the Commanders (12-5) beat the Philadelphia Eagles 36-33, essentially ending Jones’ hopes. But only if that was all, as the 82-year-old’s arch nemesis has now come to fire another shot at his former owner.
After the game, the former Cowboys legend Dez Bryant—who certainly hasn’t been a fan of the Cowboys GM since 2018—didn’t mince any words and tweeted on January 12, “Dan Quinn turned a once-struggling franchise into a playoff contender and won his first playoff game…Until Dallas focuses on winning instead of politics… Cowboy fans should not expect success soon…I’m telling you this straightforwardly.., just as I always do…” That’s a strong message about their continued failures.
Notably, this is not the first time that the 36-year-old has locked horns with Jones. For some context: Bryant was once a shining star in the Cowboys roster. But, come 2018, all hell broke loose when he was let go. Unceremoniously, and on the back of consecutive lackluster seasons—after three consecutive above 1000-yard seasons in 2012, 2013, and 2014, the then 26-year-old followed up with 401 yards (2015), 796 yards (2016), and 838 yards (2017), before Jones reconsidered his place in the team.

And not to mention: The frequent sideline outbursts that were once written off as Bryant’s passion for the game, soon became a “distraction” in Jerry Jones’ words. It’s right how ESPN’s Todd Archer put it, “When the production drops, teams have a difficult time looking the other way.” The final nail in the coffin, though, was when the former WR refused to take a pay cut despite his performance dip and injury-related game misses. “Hell naw, man. I believe in me,” Bryant had said when talking about a cut to his $12.5 million 2018 salary (making him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL). Unfortunately, the front office did what it had to do…
No wonder Bryant has been pissed for all these years. Having said that, when it comes to Jones’ other former employee Dan Quinn, it was his 2nd playoff win over the Buccaneers. As the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023, he did a great job. Though they lost against the 49ers in the 2021 wildcard game, he helped them defeat the Bucs in the 2022 wild-card round before losing to the 49ers in the divisional playoffs. In 2023, the Packers defeated the Cowboys in the wildcard. But after replacing him with Mike Zimmer, they couldn’t even qualify.
Jerry Jones has made repeated decisions that made them more disorganized. He started it with delayed contract talks of CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. While Prescott kept practicing, Lamb held out from all the minicamps and training sessions, only joining after he got a 4-year $136 million deal.
Even during the season, they lost the week 10 game against the Eagles. Lamb asked the owner to use curtains during games, but he refused. No one understood why he rejected the request, considering they were often used in concerts and shows. Now, he hasn’t given a solid update about the HC Mike McCarthy’s extension. But he blocked the Bears’ request to interview him.

Dan Quinn showed talent as the Falcons’ head coach from 2015 to 2020. In his second year as an NFL head coach, he took them into Super Bowl LI in 2016 but lost. On Sunday, January 12, he created history.
Jerry Jones’ ex-DC makes hearts pound with playoff victory
It was the Commanders’ first playoff win in 19 years. Their last wild card game victory over the Buccaneers was on January 7, 2006. However, Dan Quinn made sure that his players were on peak performance, clinching a 23-20 win in the last second of the game as Zane Gonzalez’s 37-yard kick hit the right upright and went in at the last second. Baker Mayfield held his head in disbelief.
When a fan said he had no idea about their playoff win after 19 years, former Cowboys WR praised the head coach and replied, “Dan Quinn made Dallas Hot again for a quick moment, and if anybody says otherwise they are f—— lying… he turned nobody’s into stars!”
Jerry Jones’ team had a 12-5 record in all 3 seasons when he was there. The Cowboys recorded the most turnovers in the league. But he moved on to become a head coach again. And they are into the divisional playoff with the rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
