The Texas A&M Aggies welcome their newest HC, Mike Elko, with an extremely subpar celebration. Coach Jimbo Fisher was released from the squad this month but will be smiling tears of joy all the way to the bank.

Jimbo Fisher was fired from the Texas team midseason this month. Since his contract hasn’t come to an end, he will be receiving a record-breaking buyout worth $76 million. But it seems that the Texas team is willing to splurge all their money on Fisher rather than their new coach, Mike Elko, in a recent comparison.

On November 27, Mike Elko finally arrived in College Station as the newest coach for the Aggies. Yet his arrival didn’t look like it was celebrated with great enthusiasm. When Fisher first arrived at the team, he had a big party to receive him at the airport, whereas Elko arrived rather discreetly.

In the two photos, the distinction between Elko and Fisher’s arrival can be clearly seen. Elko was one of the frontrunners for Texas’ HC position, and the fans are more than ecstatic about his time with the team. But the question remains: why do the Texas Aggies seem to value Fisher more than Elko even after such a disastrous season?

Jimbo Fisher: Why was he suddenly released from the team mid-season?

The Texas team fired Fisher after a poor record this season. With over six seasons played with the Aggies, his score stood at a low of 45-25. After the match between the Texas team and Mississippi State, Fisher was released from the team, even though the Aggies won by a fantastic score of 51-10. When he was released, athletic director Ross Bjork, stated that the decision came due to the fact that the Aggies weren’t making any progress towards the national championship.

Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork said, “The assessment that I delivered was that we are not reaching our full potential. We are not in the championship conversation and something was not quite right about our direction and the plan.” The team had apparently made their decision about Fisher’s future prior to the match. But while he walks out of the team with a hefty buyout, all eyes will be set on Mike Elko as he tries to distance himself from the example of Fisher’s bad performance.
