It’s not always that the fans get to see a coach and his quarterback go against each other in a heated war of words. But in the mean sport of the NFL, everything goes with no holds barred. And this time, it’s the former Washington Commanders’ coach and his quarterback that has been holding his criticism in for far too long.
Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden played together during the years 2012 and 2013. While the fans have always expected sour grapes between the two, the real tension between them has been revealed in a long-standing social media feud. The continuous back and forth reached its peak when Gurden posted a now-deleted tweet that said, “You weren’t good enough. Kirk was better. Cleveland didn’t want you. Baltimore did either. Quit blaming me.” The debate has reached new lows and in a recent interview, Desean Jackson jumped in to share his views on the escalated situation.

The feud between former Washington Commanders’ coach Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden keeps snowballing. This time, it’s the former WR for the Eagles who steps in to speak up against the back-and-forth online argument. Desean Jackson had a clear-cut answer on which side he preferred in this battle, and the fans couldn’t be more enthralled by it.
"I feel like RGIII has the right to say what he says … and it's valid."

He said, “I think RGIII has the right to say what he wants. Because at the time, he would’ve probably got fined or benched. I think this is his time to really be able to give his truth of the matter. And I feel like he is valid.” The entire fanbase of the NFL seems to have a divided opinion on the ongoing war, but it looks like Jackson has made his stance pretty clear and has sided with RGIII for being able to voice his opinions. Moreover, their fight even extended to Coach Prime at one point when Gruden insulted his season with the Buffaloes in 2023.
Jay Gruden and Griffin’s battle drags Deion’s name through the mud
It all started when Colorado’s season came to an end. Even though it was a terrible performance from the team, Deion still managed to revamp the team’s record from 1-11 in 2022 to 4-8 in 2023. For these numbers, Griffin took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to share his good wishes for Coach Prime. While this should’ve been met with support, Gruden didn’t miss this opportunity to call out the mediocrity of Deion’s coaching skills.

Griffin wrote, “Coach Prime lifted @CUBuffsFootball from 1 win last year to 4 in year 1. From no hope to hope for a bright future. Whether you love him or love to hate him, you watched @DeionSanders team at levels never seen before for a team coming off a 1 win season. Next year will be fun.” This invoked a response from Gruden which said, “I wish 4 wins was the standard. I’d still be coaching” Thus, it is evident at this point that Gruden is trying his best to stay within the limelight of the NFL and the beef between these two is far from its end.
