So, Jerry Jones is the master of uncertainty, huh? The reason? Well, for one, the Cowboys‘ owner never shied away from backing Mike McCarthy for months. Now, here we are, the American team that has parted ways with their head coach after a season full of ups and downs. With that, the Cowboys are back to square one—time to find their next head coach and kick off a new chapter. But before that, Michael Irvin has something to say.

Irvin, being the outspoken Cowboys legend he is, isn’t holding back when it comes to the Cowboys who are in the market for a new leader. Because, the talk of the town is that the Cowboys are looking to interview their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, for their next head coach. Irvin hit up his YouTube channel and as one fan asked about the Cowboys’ head coach search, the former wide receiver came up with a solid response.

“I heard this today. I heard them bringing out and throwing out and we talked about it on the show today, Brian Schottenheimer,” Irvin stated. “And I was like…no. No. You see, this thing has changed and I am telling you guys, this thing is getting worse. With a better name and a better person, the better coach, you can’t be messing around with these no-names.”

Look, the thing is, besides Schottenheimer, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have interviewed a few other candidates after McCarthy’s departure. For instance, JJ and crew have interviewed former Jets coach Robert Saleh, Eagles OC Kellen Moore, and Seahawks‘ assistant head coach Leslie Frazier.

The kicker? Michael Irvin believes that if the Cowboys don’t bring big-name coaches, they won’t succeed. He’s just not thrilled about the news that his former team’s now going with their OC for the head coach role. In fact, Irvin thinks the Cowboys need a coach who can really light a fire under the team and boost their morale. But that’s not the only reason he’s not sold on Schottenheimer being the next head coach.

The Cowboys’ legend is looking out for the fan base as well. “The Cowboys need to make sure they make the right decision to move the ball forward on the football field.” Irvin continued. “But man, I think the Cowboys have to make sure they make the right decision to also send a little hope to the fan base.”

Now the decision is in the hands of Jerry Jones to choose a leader for his team. But seems like his ‘my way or the highway approach’ is getting him under scrutiny even after the season is over.

Are Jerry Jones’ decisions sabotaging the Cowboys?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jerry Jones' leadership style the real reason behind the Cowboys' three-decade championship drought?

Have an interesting take?

Let’s cut to the chase. We have a bunch of contenders for the Cowboys’ vacant head coaching post and who’s hunting down the rightful contender for that post? As per the reports, it’s the owner himself, Jerry Jones. Because the Dallas team is Jones’ empire. It’s as simple as that. But where did his decisions land the Cowboys? Three decades without an NFC Championship game and that’s a lot to show one’s leadership skills.

Add head coaching search to it, and it becomes a whole new drama. Why? What happened? Well, whenever a head coach lands a contract with the Cowboys, one thing’s for sure. He needs to deal with Jones’ approach to doing things. Now, as the Cowboys look for a successful next season, it seems Jones is on a hunt to find an HC who can deal with his personality.

And according to an ex-head coach of the Cowboys, Jason Garrett, it can be Deion Sanders. Yep, the Colorado Buff’s HC. Garrett recently appeared on the Dan Patrick Show and remarked though Sanders has been doing a good job in Boulder, he should take the Cowboys job “if he feels compelled,” because Coach Prime and Jones have a “long relationship.” But here’s the catch. Despite his steady relationship with Jones, Sanders needs to deal with the owner’s personality dilemma as well.

Speaking of the dilemma, Garrett further mentioned, “You’ve to deal with that…You just figure it out. You can’t let those things detract from what you’re trying to build. Sometimes you wish they weren’t there, you didn’t have to deal with those distractions. There is a lot of attention on that team anyway, so why are we adding fuel to the fire? But again, it’s part of it and you work your way through it.”

To his response, Dan Patrick talked about one instance when he asked Tim Cowlishaw if he told Jerry Jones that he could not hold any more interviews or radio shows for the next 5 years in return for a Super Bowl, would he be able to do it? To his reply, Garrett responded, “I just don’t think he wants to give that up. Someone asked me the other day, do you go in there and try to change Jerry Jones? I said you’re not changing Jerry. He’s 82 years old. This is what he wants to do. He (Jones) wants to be the lead voice of the organization. And I don’t see him giving that up anytime soon.”

Well, if we’re talking about Jones leading the organization, then hear this out. JJ signed Prescott for a whopping $240 million contract and CeeDee Lamb for a $136 million contract. That’s money spent well enough on two players that when McCarthy came for the extension, the Cowboys had to part ways with him. And now, he has taken the head coach-searching job in his hand. So yeah, looks like Jerry Jones’ decision are kinda sabotaging the Cowboys indeed.
