Eagles won the Super Bowl LIX. A first for Jalen Hurts after the disappointment two years ago. But for another quarterback, the trophy is far. Far from his reach! It’s Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. He hasn’t even been to the NFC Championship game. Nor has his franchise in 30 years. The confidence, though, has always been high. And he showed it again after the Super Bowl was done. Yet the fans wonder when their 3-decade drought will end.
On February 9, while the Eagles were celebrating their win, Dak Prescott said, “They’ve earned it, and they deserve it by all means. But, yeah, (we’re) very close. (I) feel confident that we’ve gotten the better part each and every time. It’s our turn, and it’s on us.” The statement birthed controversy. Many people condemned his attitude despite not even getting a whiff of the trophy after 9 years in the NFL.
Radio personality and ‘Voice of Cowboys nation,’ J Tuck was heated and called on the Cowboys quarterback to “stop taking the high road”. He told the QB to stand up for himself. Cowboys legend Dez Bryant also joined him, and wrote, “You know how I feel about it Tuck! The day he start doing that 4 will have a chance at winning the Super Bowl! I’ll love to see it!”

Things have changed for the franchise. This year, the NFC witnessed a rookie reaching the Championship game. Jayden Daniels looked totally unstoppable until the Eagles stopped him in his tracks. But he earned rave reviews. It was a completely different story for Dak Prescott. Though he injured his right hamstring in the week 9 game against the Colts, the team was already struggling with a 3-5 win-loss record. In the end, they were eliminated from playoff contention pretty early.
The failures have enraged the fans. Tuck also claimed, “The Cowboys (front office) know they can do whatever. And you’re going to sit back and take it.” We saw it when Mike McCarthy left the franchise. The Cowboys are a fairly unique team where the owner Jerry Jones is the GM as well. Jones spoke with other proven and big-name coaches but ultimately did what he wanted. He promoted the OC Brian Schottenheimer to the head coach job. The QB’s preference allegedly played a crucial role, something Tuck said could stem from his “corporate” aka yes man mentality.
Dak Prescott shares excitement over the new HC
When Schottenheimer was hired, reports came out that Prescott was in favor of making him the new HC. Jones, already a proponent of not paying much to the coaches theory, happily obliged. After the Super Bowl, the QB said, “Super excited for him. He’s not going to take anything about this game lightly. He enjoys the work in it, kind of old-fashioned.”

The question still looms for Dak Prescott. They need to win a Super Bowl. He needs to win a Super Bowl. 2 coaches, Jason Garrett (2010-2019) and Mike McCarthy (2020-2024) have come and left. Not only the trophy, but even the NFC Championship has been a dream.

Schottenheimer hasn’t head-coached any team before. He will try his best. But until the entire roster gets an overhaul with strict discipline for the things it takes to succeed, a trophy will remain a dream. Can he do it?
