Tom Brady gets real with NFL head coach firings
Unlike in the past when the NFL didn’t produce changes quickly, there have been several instances of head coaches being fired in the 2022-23 seasons. After the recent firing of the Panthers head coach, Tom Brady took the time to express his opinions in an Instagram reel about the situation. He said, “I think the important part about firing and hiring and all this is continuity is the key in the NFL. The more you have continuity, the more you can build on things over the course of years.”

Tom Brady admits that he was a “beneficiary of a lot of coaching changes over the years.” When he was with the Patriots, they had a successful stint where opponents failed to beat them and fired their head coaches in hopes of improvement. But the NFL legend goes on to say, “You think sometimes, you’re solving a problem by firing the coach. I don’t know, sometimes you do, sometimes you can create more problems too so you really better know what you’re doing if that’s the case.”

Frank Reich stepped in as the Panthers’ head coach this season with the expectation of turning the team’s offense around and molding Bryce Young. But 11 games into the season, owner David Tepper fired him on account of low performance as the Panthers trail 1-10. Josh McDaniels was the first NFL head coach to be fired this season on the grounds of dismal execution with the Las Vegas Raiders.

It’s quite rare to see an NFL team fire a head coach in one season. But like Tom Brady has pointed out, it takes years to build something and perhaps, the NFL teams might do better if they consider the situation thoroughly before deciding to fire their head coach.
