There have been rumors that new LA Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh might bring Colin Kaepernick back to the NFL. There’s no definitive conclusion yet, but if the scenario were to happen, not many would be pleased with Harbaugh’s decision.

Former NFL QB Colin Kaepernick is back to set things ablaze with his recent Instagram upload, taking a shot at Patrick Mahomes. The post featured a photo accentuating the “Highest QBR entering the Super Bowl ranking since 2006.” Kaepernick takes the lead with 91.2 in 2012, followed by Matt Ryan and Peyton Manning with 90.5 in 2016 and 90.4 in 2009, respectively. Patrick Mahomes stood at No. 4 with 90.2 in 2023.
Now, this post has risen amid the Jim Harbaugh reunion rumor. Former Chargers star Shawne Merriman said on Fox News Digital, “I think it would be a horrible decision… You got a lot of people out there putting in the time, putting in the effort and is waiting in line for those jobs and more qualified for those jobs. And to jump over everybody else who spent their time, energy, still in line and work their way up, would just be a slap in the face to everyone that’s been committed to raising the bar.”

Colin Kaepernick was Jim Harbaugh’s No. 1 QB at San Francisco
There’s no question. Jim Harbaugh put a lot of faith in Colin Kaepernick when he was the former 49ers HC from 2011-15. He even benched Alex Smith and traded him to the Kansas City Chiefs to put Kaepernick as the No. 1 permanent QB. Together, they advanced to the 2012 Super Bowl where Jim Harbaugh lost to his brother John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens.

There’s a prospect of a reunion but only this time, Kaepernick could be coming back as a staff member instead of being a player.
