Most people call it the NFL season. Some might call it the football season, while others might call it the battle season, and so on. But did you know Julian Edelman has something else in mind – something that’s unexpected?
Well, there’s no doubt that Julian Edelman never fails to impress his audience. Whether it’s from his WR role in the NFL, his friendship banter with Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski, or now entertaining podcast viewers with his football insights, he keeps us hooked. But this time, he introduced a new term that caught the attention of Charissa Thompson. That happened when she was taking a classroom session with Edelman and other players.
During the latest episode of the Calm Down Podcast, Charissa Thompson talked about a funny and slightly awkward moment. She explained that Julian Edelman coined the term, “cream season,” saying – “As Julian Edelman likes to say, ‘it’s cream season,’ which is a disgusting phrase, but it’s the cream, he’s right.” But what’s exactly cream?

Well, during the latest episode of NFL on FOX, host Charissa Thompson acted as a teacher for the show wherein she had a couple of former NFL players & analysts. Julian Edelman, Mike Vick, Charles Woodson, and Peter Schrager, all acted as her students in the segment, listing their choices of which team would make a comeback at the last moment. During this, Edelman said “cream season,” likely referring to the critical time in the NFL season when the “cream rises to the top.” Now this got Thompson off guard, as she narrated the same in her podcast episode.
Guess what? This even surprised her co-host Erin Andrews who said, “Oh, my God. When he wrote that on the board, I was like ‘huh?’” But that’s not where the story ends. This revelation even became more comical when Thompson mentioned that Edelman tried to make a Lombardi Trophy on the board. However, his attempt apparently resembled something “phallic,” making the situation more humorous and awkward for the host. Nevertheless, we get you, Edelman, what you wanted to say at that “cream season” segment!

Julian Edelman picked the team that made it into the playoffs last year!
During the NFL on FOX teacher-student segment, Charissa Thompson called Julian Edelman first to pick his team as the comeback team in the final weeks. And he chose – the Packers. He described the cream season as the season wherein “good teams separate from the bad.” Edelman’s reason for choosing Green Bay is the fact that this team has won seven of their last eight games and is currently on a three-game winning streak.
He explained his stance by saying that despite not having their starting quarterback for a period, they still managed to secure a win. Edelman used the metaphor of “pasteurization” to indicate that the team has moved past a challenging phase. Now, he believes they’re rising to the top and hitting their stride.
