Barry Sanders played as the Lions’ QB for ten seasons and left the league in 1999 after completing 15,269 rushing yards, just 1,007 yards short of surpassing Walter Payton’s 16,276 yards. He called the upcoming documentary “the definitive movie on my life.” The 55-year-old teased his curious fans with a Twitter post stating, “The great mystery of why I walked away will be answered once and for all.” Bye Bye Barry will stream on Amazon Prime Video on November 21.
The legacy of Barry Sanders remains, and it is apparent from the Lions’ act of commemoration by unveiling his 8-foot bronze statue outside of Fort Field. Detroit mayor Mike Duggan said during the ceremony, “Barry Sanders, on and off the field, always made Detroit proud.”

As the world waits with bated breath for what would be the reason why Barry Sanders quit the NFL in 1999, the Detroit Lions get the honor to host an exclusive Bye Bye Barry premiere at the Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit on Friday. So, the public will have to wait a few more days while VIPs and a handful of Lions season ticket holders get a chance to watch the suspense documentary tonight at 7:30.
