Retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady, is synonymous with competitiveness. Boasting an illustrious career spanning over two decades, he accommodated remarkable achievements, including seven Super Bowl titles, eight Super Bowl and regular-season MVP awards, six All-Pro Bowl selections, and 15 Pro Bowl appearances. Even though Brady holds numerous records, many of which are likely to stand for generations, his off-the-field persona maintains a down-to-earth demeanor.

Comedian Rob Riggle, who had previously shared an episode of Saturday Night Live with Brady, highlighted this aspect of his personality in his recent appearance on the Games with Names podcast with Tom Brady’s former teammate Julian Edelman. “He was great. I actually was very proud of him. He was willing to be silly and look for it,” Riggle said. However, it is another “common thread” that binds Brady to the greatest world leaders and change makers.

According to Rob Riggle and Julian Edelman, Tom Brady’s remarkable quality lies in his ability to compartmentalize, an attribute that sets him apart. Even in challenging personal situations, such as dealing with his mother’s illness, Brady maintained an unwavering focus on his work. Edelman sheds light on Brady’s ability to remain unnerved by personal crises in his professional role, “a guy had found out his mom’s dying, or has cancer a few weeks and no one knew about it cuz he was the same guy at work.” In 2016, Galynn Brady, Tom Brady’s mother, faced a severe diagnosis of breast cancer, undergoing five months of radiation and chemotherapy. Tom Brady dedicated his 2017 Super Bowl win against the Atlanta Falcons to his mother.

This skill, often observed in leaders, generals, and celebrities, involves effectively segregating different aspects of life. Many can compartmentalize to some extent, but the key is sustaining it, especially during significant life events. Brady’s capacity to keep personal matters in their silo, avoiding spillover, exemplifies a leadership quality that not everyone possesses. Like his ability to compartmentalize, Brady can also appreciate the leadership quality in others, which finds ample evidence in his latest Instagram post.
