In November 2024, Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, made a strong statement pertaining to changes in the NFL games. The commissioner said, “We’re looking at a change from the 17-and-three format to maybe 18 regular season games and two preseason games.” This can be great news for some NFL fans and experts but not for former Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre.

Well, the commissioner’s decision of playing 18 games instead of 17 can have tons of effects. But what Brett Favre has pointed out is unique and can make you think. He wrote a small post of his X-handle, “With the NFL adding an extra game, you’re going to see a lot more records broken. In the long run, prob won’t affect career records too much but breaking single-season records will become much more common.” Brett Favre must be pointing to what Saquon Barkley is doing in the NFL this year, which is genuine. But Favre is thinking about the future.

The way fans reacted to Favre’s post, shows the depth of his words. Some fans compared it with NBA records being broken in two totally different eras, especially in terms of challenges and difficulty.

Another thing the league’s commissioner Roger Goodell said was a hint of what the league management is thinking about the changes in the NFL games. Goodell said, “We hope to be 16 [international games] within five years.” And you have already seen the  Packers and Eagles getting head-to-head in Brazil this year. Well, the commission wants to have more international games.

Alright, we’ll get to see how these changes work, but there’s one NFL record that might go down this season. One can say that if Goodell’s new projection was applied to the current season, Barkley’s record chase would have been over by now.

Will adding more games dilute the prestige of breaking NFL records, as Brett Favre suggests?

Have an interesting take?

Yep, you read that right, or may be aware that the Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is just 101 rushing yards away from breaking a historic record. Former NFL legend Eric Dickerson (2,105 yards) holds the record for most rushing yards in a single NFL season.

When asked about this Saquon just hurdled it backwards! The Eagles No. 26 said, “I’m not overtly trying to get it. I’m not scared of it, but we’ve got bigger things we’re focused on.” With that being said, will he break the rushing yards record? Well, Eagles’ coach Nick Sirriani has decided to rest him in the week 18 game against the Giants. So the record seems distant now. Well, the current holder reacted to the possibility as well.

When Eric Dickerson was asked, he expressed, “I don’t think he will break it. If he breaks it, he breaks it.” Well, he is right. But wait. What if there were 18 games this season? Do you think it would have been difficult for Saquon to break this record this season? Or do you agree with Brett Favre?
