Alright, so after an epic 24 years with the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick finally stepped away from the team and made his way to UNC. But here’s the kicker — his legacy with the Patriots? Yeah, that’s not going anywhere, especially with the NFL GOAT, Tom Brady. And just a few moments ago, he shared a wild thought with us. Any guesses?
The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach just tossed out the idea that the Lombardi Trophy should actually be called the Brady Trophy. Why? Well, according to Belichick, the man’s won 7 of ‘em! It’s a bold take, but can you really argue with the guy who’s had a front-row seat to Brady’s legendary career?

I mean, leading a team to seven Super Bowl titles, racking up over 89,000 passing yards, and throwing 649 touchdowns? That’s not something just anyone can pull off — unless you’re Tom Brady. But here’s the thing: those insane stats? They’re just part of the story. What really cements Brady as the NFL GOAT is the longevity. The dude had not one, not two, but basically three careers in one—according to his former teammate, of course.
Let’s start with the peak of Brady’s career — that legendary run with the Patriots. But even with all the highs, there were some lows, too. He lost his Pro Bowl teammates, dealt with completely new rosters, and went through a brutal Super Bowl drought for a decade. And just when you thought you knew his story, he switched things up in his final three years and headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But here’s the thing — no matter what, his performance never dipped. For 23 straight years, Brady was putting up numbers that made everyone stop and take notice. And trust me, Bill Belichick knows that better than anyone. As the former Patriots’ head coach himself says, “Players win games. You can’t win games without good players. I don’t care who the coach is. It’s impossible. You can’t win without good players.”
At the end of the day, we might not be able to say for sure if the Lombardi Trophy should be renamed the Brady Trophy. But here’s the thing — there’s one title that will always be his, no debate about it: The NFL GOAT!
The NFL is having another GOAT era after Tom Brady
Every game and every season, Patrick Mahomes is coming closer to Brady’s records. And he’s doing it at a great pace than anyone could have thought. With three Super Bowls already while eyeing a fourth one, two MVPs, and stats that speak for themselves, Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league. But the thing is, he needs to grind a bit more to dethrone Brady from the GOAT title. And Julian Edelman knows it very well.

The Patriots’ legend appeared on the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday when he talked about the Mahomes’ path to surpass Brady. “He’s just got to do it for a long time,” Edelman said. “He’s on pace. This is remarkable if he goes out and does three in a row in a salary cap era. You can’t say much.” Well, at this point, the three-peat seems just one step closer, not just to fans but to Edelman as well, and he is acknowledging it very well.
And, if we’re talking about the numbers, then Edelman has seen some great ones. After spending over a decade with Brady, he knows what greatness looks like. And when it comes to the Mahomes vs. Brady debate, he’s quick to point out what sets them apart — at least for now. “The only difference is the longevity,” Edelman said. “Tom had like three careers… Patrick’s been doing that his whole career, but it’ll be interesting for me to see the next chapter of Patrick Mahomes when some sort of adversity comes along.”

Honestly, he’s not wrong. The real test for Mahomes will come when veteran players like Travis Kelce will retire, and he needs to build a new roster. After all, Brady won the Super Bowl even after leaving the six-time Super Bowl champions.
