Bill Belichick’s Job Search Raises Eyebrows as All-Time Success Scrutinized Amid Growing Perception of the Tom Brady Effect

The Atlanta Falcons have finally landed their new HC, and it’s not Bill Belichick! The 71-year-old left his head coaching role at the New England Patriots after consistent failures since the departure of Tom Brady from the team. After concluding a disastrous season this year, Belichick in a move mirroring Brady’s, stepped down from the Patriots to go elsewhere.

After interviewing two times with the Falcons, it’s heartbreaking on Belichick’s part to know that they picked former LA Rams DC Raheem Morris over him. As of now, he’s still yet to be picked by a team. This has led to speculation from various angles as to whether the 3x AP NFL Coach of the Year’s success is attributed to the Tom Brady Effect. 

Is Bill Belichick’s success credited to Tom Brady’s presence in New England?

A recent Twitter post summed up the growing speculation that the success that Bill Belichick enjoyed as the Patriots HC isn’t personal. It’s interesting to note that one of the greatest NFL head coaches is still open for a position despite a killer resume. Could it be that the Tom Brady Effect is real? 

Bill Belichick entered the coach-hunting episode with a resume that boasts several NFL records. Some of these records include most SB wins as an HC with 6, most SB appearances as an HC with 9, most playoff wins as an HC with 31, and most divisional championships as an HC with 17. His overall HC record in his 23 seasons with the Patriots is 333-178. Despite these impressive stats, it’s curious why no team wants to sign him. 

Bill Belichick’s decline without Tom Brady 

The Tom Brady Effect is a phenomenon where everywhere Tom Brady goes, an overall improvement is seen in several aspects. This means that the former Patriots legendary QB was the driving force leading to more positive results, more championships, and better sales/revenue for everything he was associated with in general. In his 20 seasons with the Patriots, he was named the SB MVP four times and NFL MVP three times.

Even after he departed from the successful franchise under Bill Belichick, he managed to take his legacy to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning them a Super Bowl in 2021. As for Belichick, he saw the decline in the Patriots after the GOAT’s departure after the 2019 season. The team’s regular season records dwindled from 2020 with the most recent 4-13 2023 record pulling the final straw.
