Bill Belichick’s stocks might go up after this season. There are plenty of teams in the NFL that are not doing well at all, and they’d want his expertise to elevate them. But at this time, it’s not about which team will hire the 6x Super Bowl-winning head coach, it’s about where he wants to go.
The team’s location, management, the structure, the former NFL head coach will have to take everything into account before he decides to commit to a team. On that note, Rich Eisen, who invited Tom Pelissero to his show, wanted to play a game of over or under with the NFL Insider and claimed that at least two teams would want to speak to Belichick.
It was easy for Pelissero to go over 2.5 because let’s be honest, many teams are already in talks with Belichick and lowkey begging him to take the job. Some teams we know about, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, others, we don’t. Last year, Arthur Blank, the Falcons owner, invited him to his yacht to have a conversation but didn’t give him the job.

Per Pelissero, teams would have to try to understand where Belichick is at in his life and that it might take him a few years to turn a franchise around. They’d have to take that gamble. Certainly, a man like Belichick will also assess the situation and would not take a prove-it deal with any franchise and would want some sort of permanent commitment. So, the NFL Insider thinks Belichick will wait for the regular season to see how things play out.
“When you’re in your 70s and you’re trying to get the wins record which is going to take you 2-3 years, this is more of I would say a hired gun type of scenario here and it might be a team that nobody’s talking about moving on from their coach that maybe ends up being the best fit for Bill Belichick. I don’t foresee him being on the tour and there’s four or five teams that are announcing, ‘We interviewed Bill Belichick for the job,’” Pelissero told Rich Eisen.
The NFL Insider was sure that the third-most winningest coach in the league was “definitely preparing to coach” and we might get to know more about it by the end of December or early January. On that note, let’s talk about the latest updates on Belichick rejoining the NFL.
The Bill Belichick-Jacksonville Jaguars connect
Around November 19, Dianna Russini of The Athletic made waves in the football world when she reported that Belichick was eyeing the Jacksonville team to kick off his return in the NFL. The Jags, who nearly made it to the playoffs last year, are 2-9 as of week 12 of this NFL season. Soon enough, Doug Pederson might end up on the chopping block and the Duval County team might need a new coach.

“Let’s get into this because there’s a lot of chatter about Bill Belichick taking that job,” Russini said. “I can tell you that Belichick certainly has his eye on this Jacksonville opening. This is an organization that has tons of respect for Belichick. They’ve got a good relationship already.”
Things became absurd when the Detroit Lions beat them 52-6. We sympathize with Jags fans as they had to watch this monstrosity unfold. Though Trevor Lawrence didn’t play in that game, his performance hasn’t been up to the mark this season. Maybe a coach like Bill Belichick can fix that. Maybe the Jaguars need some tough love from a guy like Belichick.

Some people are really serious about the former Patriots coach joining the Dallas Cowboys. But that doesn’t feel consistent. Jerry Jones and Bill Belichick want the same level of control and there might be power struggles between the two. After all, Belichick had also been the de facto GM of the Patriots for the last 24 years. Let’s wait to see how this Belichick saga unfolds.
