Alright, let’s paint the picture here. Patrick Mahomes has been the magic man for the Kansas City Chiefs for years. There’s no doubt about that. His no-look passes, scrambling out of impossible situations, and of course, that rocket of an arm makes him a nightmare for defenses. But let’s be real for a second. Sure, Mahomes is doing the Mahomes things, but what about the rest of the O-line? That high-powered offensive performance has been missing for a couple of seasons.

Though there have been some hiccups, a few pieces are missing from the puzzle, yet the QB keeps pulling rabbits out of hats. But what about his supporting cast? Well, ask the Chiefs’ former QB, Alex Smith, who just threw some serious shade that might make you rethink everything. Smith appeared on Get Up and took a jab at the Chiefs’ offense while discussing “Is Jayden Daniels playing the best of any QB in playoffs?”

According to Smith, Mahomes is “doing more with less” than compared to the other QBs remaining in the playoffs. His actual words? “Listen, he is phenomenal and I agree with the heat…but the weapons he has, the offense he plays in? Like Patrick does more with less,” he stated. Translation: he’s calling out the rest of the Chiefs’ offense for not stepping up the way Mahomes has. It may seem a bit off, but yeah, that’s what the QB-turned-broadcaster thinks for the Chiefs’ O-line.

Now, Smith knows a thing or two about the pressure. He played in the Kansas City team before Mahomes took over, so he gets the whole “doing more with what you’ve got” struggle. But let’s be honest, his statement sounds a bit harder when we look at the way the Chiefs have played this season. But the question is, why does Smith think Mahomes is in this crazy position?

Well, for starters, the receiving corps has been, let’s just say, a bit unpredictable. Travis Kelce is, of course, still a force, but let’s face it, he’s human. What about the others? The Chiefs have names like the second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice, the rookie Xavier Worthy, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on their roster. With these names, the expectation were sky high from the O-line in preseason.

Alas, things didn’t work out the way the Kansas City team wanted it. Brown suffered a nearly season-ending injury during the preseason. And a few weeks later, Rice joined his company and suffered a season-ending knee injury in week 4. That left the Chiefs with the rookie, Worthy. And honestly, Worthy had been a hit or a miss until late in this season.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Patrick Mahomes carrying the Chiefs alone, or is Alex Smith's criticism of the offense justified?

Adding to that, starting running back, Isiah Pacheco was in the IR in week 2 and most of their O-line struggled due to injuries. All in all, Mahomes and Kelce still managed to carry the offense on their shoulders. That said, it appears that Alex Smith’s statement isn’t without merit. But still, comparing Patrick Mahomes’ workload to the other QBs remaining in the playoffs sounds kinda odd.

Smith’s statement on Patrick Mahomes raised eyebrows

Now the thing is, when Smith came up with his comment, no wonder his statement raised eyebrows, especially when a rookie quarterback in the Washington Commanders led his team to the Championship round. But wait, Damien Woody has got Jayden Daniels’ back as he counter attacked Smith’s remarks. “What we’re not going to do is sit here and act like that the Washington Commanders have like the greatest show on turf type weapons at their disposal right now,” Woody stated.

Sure, there are some injury concerns in the Commanders’ O-line as well, but Daniels has been leading their offense like a pro throughout the season. Take the postseason for instance. The rookie entered the wildcard round against the Baker Mayfield’s offense and thrashed them outta of the park and advanced to the divisional round.

Speaking of the divisional round, that’s some insane level gameplay from the Commanders when they clashed against the Juggernaut, Detroit Lions. Jayden Daniels and the Commanders pulled one of the biggest wins in the divisional round history, with 45-31. The highlight of the game? It’s the rookie QB again. Daniels threw for 299 yards, rushed for 51 yards, and racked up a solid two touchdowns, all while dominating the Lions’ defense throughout the game.

Wanna hear Smith’s remarks on his performance? Well, Alex Smith believes that Jayden Daniels is only doing good because he has offensive weapons. But here’s the kicker? Whether for his offensive weapons or not, Daniels led his team to the first conference championship game appearance in 33 years. Looks like Patrick Mahomes isn’t the only one who’s doing a great job this season, huh?
