NFL’s sensational quarterback, Tom Brady’s plate is quite full post his retirement. The 49-year-old icon, who clinched seven Super Bowl victories during his illustrious 23-year NFL career, announced his retirement in February. Out of his seven championship wins, six were earned while playing with the New England Patriots, while his seventh and final Super Bowl win came in 2021 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Despite persistent rumors of a comeback following his retirement, Brady has voiced otherwise. He seems to have shifted his focus to off-the-field endeavors. He has readily ventured into ownership, becoming a part-owner of multiple sports teams across varied genres including, the Las Vegas Raiders, an English football club named Birmingham City, and a women’s WNBA team, Las Vegas Aces. He’s also scheduled to take on a role as an analyst for FOX Sports commencing in the 2024 season. On the recent episode of “Let’s Go!” [Season III] Co-hosted by former Arizona Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray, the legendary NFL quarterback Brady discussed the candidature of possible quarterback succession in the NFL. But can they overcome the many hurdles on the path to greatness?

“I think when I’m looking at guys in pro football, quarterbacks, you know, Patrick [Mahomes] is the one that really stands out,” Brady expressed during an appearance on the ‘Let’s Go!’ podcast, where he was joined by NBA and Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal. The retired NFL legend heaped praise on the young quarterback before appreciating head coach Robert Saleh’s contribution to the team.

Brady emphasizes the crucial role played by the head coach in curating a system that can bring out the best in all his players, and additionally, “Gives you the humble pie when things are going good and knows how to pick you up when things aren’t good.” Though the retired NFL icon can relate to Mahomes’ ability to outperform others within a system orchestrated by the head coach, he does not shy away from identifying the numerous hurdles he had to overcome to remain at the top of the game.

Brady’s route to perfection

Very few NFL players are as disciplined and motivated as Tom Brady. Apart from discussing Mahones, the seven-time Super Bowl champ opened up about the difficulties that one has to achieve to reach exceptional heights, hurdles that are often overshadowed by the celebrations of greatness. “Every game wasn’t perfect,” amidst Brady, but he has always been able to maintain a high-level performance “every single year for basically every single game” to make sure that he never put his “team in a position to lose.”

“There are very few guys like that that I’m watching over and over and over,” says the NFL legend, referring to the rarity of dedicated players who are willing to go that extra mile and put in the work that is required to achieve greatness.
