Home/NFL

Ex-49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has been in football wilderness for the past seven years. When QB Aaron Rodgers fell on the opening drive of Monday Night Football, Kaepernick put out a letter and even offered his services. However, the New York Jets opted to stick with players who were already familiar with the system. This stance has remained firm even after defeats to the Cowboys and the Patriots. Zach Wilson is set to be the Green Gang’s QB1, but Kaepernick’s calls may have been heard by another franchise.

Is this an NFL franchise that has offered the 35-year-old a ticket back to football? Or is it a team outside the NFL that may offer Colin Kaepernick a return to the gridiron?

Colin Kaepernick will not get an opportunity on the East Coast as the AFC East franchise has seemingly ruled out his arrival to ‘The Big Apple’. However, he may find a home in the north, and it is not the AFC North or the NFC North.

On September 29, 2023, the Canadian Football League took to X (f.k.a. Twitter) to reveal that a team from their West Division has added the Super Bowl runner-up to their negotiation list.

The BC Lions adding the QB to this list does not guarantee that Colin Kaepernick will be part of the franchise, but it does leave a window of opportunity open.

The news will come as a relief to the QB’s fans as they have been anticipating his return ever since his exit from the 49ers in 2016. Should things work out, Colin Kaepernick could look to perform well and show NFL franchises that he has still got it.

During his time with the San Fransisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick was known to be an athlete who was an activist both on and off the field. However, things took a turn when he bent a knee in solidarity against injustices in the country. While it was a commendable act, the NFL didn’t take too kindly to the fact that politics were involved on the gridiron, especially since he had a few ‘not-so-nice’ comments for the league.

In early 2019, Colin Kaepernick reached a confidential settlement with the NFL and withdrew his grievance, leading to his contract release from the 49ers as well. After he was released, the ‘Bay Bombers’ put out an official statement. It said, “Kaepernick did not fit into incoming head coach Kyle Shanahan’s plans.”

While this statement wasn’t ever confirmed by Colin Kaepernick himself, it has long been believed that he was released solely due to the fact that he chose to speak about his beliefs for his community. Seven years later, the fans are hoping to see him make the comeback he rightfully deserves.
