Antonio Brown's apology to Tom Brady: genuine remorse or just another social media stunt?

Antonio Brown has become something of an internet spectacle in recent years. More so, has built up a reputation as a social media troll. Credit where it’s due—he’s made “annoying” practically into an art form. But it’s not surprising that he’s managed to maintain this image; in today’s social media game, being unfiltered is half the battle. Tom Brady (his former teammate on the Super Bowl LV-winning Bucs) was often one of his targets. But Brown took the unexpected step of publicly apologizing to him. Does this mean he’s easing up? Don’t bet on it.

Right now, Brown’s online sights are firmly set on political targets, specifically showing full-throttle support for Donald Trump. After Politico posted that Trump’s support among young Black and Latino men is at record levels, you know AB was not holding back. Brown shared it, adding his own spin: “We tired of the lies & false promises. Trump a real one.”

It’s safe to say AB is doubling down on his stance. Despite some heated criticism. And if we’re being honest, his endorsement feels less like a political statement and more like AB’s unique brand of stirring the pot. Trump himself is embracing these endorsements. And recently at a Pennsylvania rally, he gave shoutouts to Brown and his former Steelers teammate Le’Veon Bell.

With a red MAGA hat firmly in place, Brown took the mic, even going so far as to roast Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, calling him “Tampon Tim” and claiming, “He isn’t a real football coach.” He added, “He could never guard me.” Classic AB.

Since then, Brown has taken to his X account with a seemingly endless stream of NSFW memes, roasting not just Walz but also Kamala Harris. No one’s safe as AB goes all out. Sometimes posting multiple times a day, trolling every angle of Trump’s opposition. If you were waiting for him to apologize to Walz or Harris, like he did with Brady, you’d be waiting a while.

Antonio Brown's apology to Tom Brady: genuine remorse or just another social media stunt?

Have an interesting take?

Antonio Brown and Tom Brady have had a wild history—teammates turned adversaries in the social media ring. After months of trolling his former quarterback, Brown finally offered a rare apology. That’s right, the same AB who’s made a sport out of social media stunts and public drama actually picked up the phone to make amends. Surprised? You’re not alone.

Brown and Brady teamed up back in 2020 on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning Super Bowl LV together. But not long after, Brown’s antics took center stage, with that unforgettable jersey-tossing exit at MetLife Stadium marking the end of his NFL career.

Since then, Brown kept himself busy on social media, with Brady coming under the cross-hairs more often than not. Yet, in a recent turn of events, Brown shared a call where he expressed genuine respect and gratitude to Brady, calling him a “champ” and saying he “helped [him] succeed” and be a part of greatness.

Brown didn’t hold back on the emotions, either. “You always special to me,” he told Brady, adding, “I only got respect for you and everything you did for me.” For a guy not known for soft words, this was a curveball. Brady, of course, accepted the apology with the same calm leadership he’s known for.

Since their days on the field, both have taken different paths. Brady has stuck around football, becoming part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and an NFL broadcaster. As for Brown, well, call him the unserious guy because that’s what fans call him now. But he has taken up another role, it seems—campaigning for Donald Trump. Their stories may have diverged. But it’s good to see them set the past aside, even if just for a moment.
