As Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers released WR Mike Williams, he’s already on his way to meet several NFL teams this week. According to a report by CBS Sports HQ Senior NFL Insider Josina Anderson, the 29-year-old is scheduled to meet the New York JetsPittsburgh Steelers, and the Carolina Panthers. Williams will first meet the Jets on Monday night. And there is a surprise team that might also be interested.

Among the several prospective teams eyeing Williams, the Chargers also have an interesting outlook on the free agent. Since Harbaugh recently restructured contracts with Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack and traded Keenan Allen to fix their salary cap issues, they’re left without WR talents. See where their latest interest lies.

Although it could be a far-fetched idea, no one would know without trying. Amid the WR dilemma, Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers may have to change their mind about Mike Williams and bring him back. Adam Schefter’s X post states, “With the Chargers having traded WR Keenan Allen, they also are interested in bringing back Williams.”

Mike Williams is a good bargain, as he’s a productive player. He recorded 309 passes, 31 TDs, and two 1000-yard seasons in his seven seasons with the Chargers. In 2019, he led the NFL by averaging 20.4 yards per catch. After releasing him amidst salary cap issues, Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers may have to make a U-turn to fill their WR room, as trading Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears poses a crisis for them.

The Chargers’ WR dilemma after trading Keenan Allen

Appearing in just three games in 2023 due to a torn ACL, Mike Williams may be prone to injury, but he’s still a great WR prospect for the Chargers after Keenan Allen. Jim Harbaugh released him in the first place due to their $20+ million salary cap dilemma. However, after a restructured contract for Bosa and Mack for a combined $34 million and trading Keenan Allen, they need an experienced WR, although they can select one of the top WRs in the NFL Draft this year.

With their fifth pick this draft season, the Chargers will likely pick one of these prospects: Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., Washington’s Rome Ozunde, and LSU’s Malik Nabers. However, a pro backup is necessary, which brings them back to Williams now that Allen will be showing off his talent in Chicago.
