It’s raining retirements in football. While the football community was just starting to absorb the news of Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s retirement, Bill Belichick’s announcement put the football fanatics in an even deeper shock. Since the season went spiraling down for the Patriots’, the rumors suspecting Bill Belichick not continuing with the Patriots were quick to spread in the air.

However, hardly anyone had anticipated the announcement coming in so suddenly. Mostly all football gurus had spoken about Belichick leaving the Patriots and everything surrounding them. Yet, when an official update about the partition came, it shocked everyone.

Per NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Patriots and their long companion, Bill Belichick, ultimately reached a stage of denouement following 24 iconic seasons and the league’s highest six SB wins. “Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are expected to part ways today after a remarkable 24 seasons together, ending an unmatched run in NFL history that included six Super Bowl titles,” announced Schefter. With this news, more reactions are still coming in.

Truly, the end of a legendary league for the Patriots. While the rumors about Belichick and the Patriots’ parting ways were intensifying by the day, the suddenness of the announcement made it too quick to process. All along, Tom Brady’s positive affirmations throughout the rumors had the fan’s hopes hanging by a thread.

Since the rumors started storming in, there were numerous times that Brady denied all predictions of Belichick leaving the team. Per Brady, he was “incredible” and “the best coach in the history of the game”. Safe to say, the news would be nothing less than shattering for Brady. In 2022, it was the end of Brady’s era, now it is the end of Belichick’s era.

What’s next for Belichick and the Patriots?

Per ESPN, the two parties are to part ways on Thursday. With Belichick leaving the Patriots, the team now has to embark on its head coach hunt after almost 25 years. Adam Schefter and Jerod Mayo, the Patriots linebackers coach who signed a contract extension in the offseason with the team is named “rising head-coaching candidate, projects to be a, if not the leading candidate for the job” per Robert Kraft. Mayo played for the Patriots from 2008 to 2014 and has been an assistant under Belichick since 2019.

As for Belichick, he is expected to receive offers from other NFL teams, as 7 NFL teams have head coach vacancies. Amidst all this, some speculations regarding two head coaching giants, Nick Saban and Bill Belichick, resigning within the same 24 hours, are expected to rise.
